Default Chronic depression & meds...question!

This question is for anyone who has suffered from chronic long term depression in addition to SA. Have you found that you've had to try different medications until you found the right one and then the same medication continued to work for you over the long term or did you have medications work for awhile and then found yourself needing to increase dosages and keep switching to new ones over time to get the same effect? Basically do the meds gradually all fizzle out on you over time? I know one person that has had chronic depression over the last 16 years. He has been on every medication out there over that time and is currently on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin at the highest dosages allowed just to maintain him. Is this the norm for chronic long term depression suffers?
