First I would like to say hi - I am a first time user of celexa and have a habit of googling when I shouldnt (end up scaring myself)... I have come across this site many times and think it is amazing so decided to join. Little background about myself - due to a stressful event I developed intense anxiety and then agrophobia. I have cut out caffeine and now alcohol (due to being on medication), went to yoga and took vitamins to attempt to heal myself but didnt work so here I am on medication... (cant do yoga etc anymore due to agrophobia but hope to get there soon!) I am currently on my second week of 10mg of celexa every morning at 9am. Current side effects in order of appearance: nausea, loss of appetite, decrease libido, extreme upset stomach and diharrea (need a spell check here), sleepinesss, memory loss... I have never been on medication and am experiencing a lot of things and would like to share my experience, get some feedback - to know I'm not alone etc... The first few days on celexa, I swear I went insane! Crying, anxiety, weird thoughts. January 1st and a few days after I felt high (nice start to the new year! haha) then up until now I felt normal which was nice with a reduction of my anxiety. Now I am starting to feel the brain changes of this medication... I guess my question here is - is this normal and just a temporary part of my adjustment period? For example, I can walk into the grocery store now without a lot of thought and be fine. My brain feels different haha like mushy or congested. I have just started experiencing the memory loss - for example, a friend will tell me something then a minute later I will ask about it then go "doh" and remember them telling me. I have also noticed that if I do not go to bed at a decent time and wake up at a decent time then I was really tired and apathic throughout the entire day - more then usual Will the upset stomach (gas etc) go away with time? Also a few positive things - my blood sugar and cigarette cravings do not bug me as much! I lost weight but now my appetite is returning :s need to keep an eye on that. Also after a few months of not having coffee as I am studying for a school exam now, I decided to sip some and it made me sooo wonky!! I woke up this morning randomly and I swear it took me hours to fall back asleep - I was laying there with a weird awareness, my mind was racing uncontrollably with really bad thoughts (im going insane, im scared etc), my brain felt mushy and weird... has this happened to anyone? little afraid to experiment one day with alcohol now... If anyone could respond to me it would be much appreciated please - feel a little alone here. ![]() PS: memory and attention side effects that are new to me - took me like an hour to write this haha had to re read this alot |

Well...i didn't get intense reactions from Celexa . For me it is a mood elevator. I experienced bruxism , decreased libido. a a bit of zombiness. My advise is to judge it after a month and a half of usage. This is the period enough for a medicine to stabilize in one's body.
One of the things you will learn is that people react differently to the same medication. You will have to find what works for you . |

Thank you for your quick response! I have in my phone to reevaluate the pill in a month or two - maybe try a new one, change dosage etc. bruxism - I have noticed my inner gums are chewed up quite a bit without me knowing it happened. Its now getting late here, close to 7pm - and I have noticed I am more alert and calm - not too scared to shower because I might nod off inside

So sleepiness has passed.. I find if I drink coffee I get very wirey then tired all next day. Even my tummy cramps are going away! I have noticed that I don't think a million times about leaving the house (assisted, haven't tried alone yet) which is amazing - big pat on the back from me to me. The brain fog I explained before has become normal - I think it was the meds working on my brain and I just needed a few days to adjust. I know it takes a few weeks if not more for this to work and I'm feeling hopeful - my cig and blood sugar cravings aren't as bad !!
Must say I am a little dissapointed with this form.. Wish I had more ppl to talk to as I still feel a lil alone in this journey.dunno if ill be back on here - was a good try tho |

I was prescribed Celexa and I've began taken the generic version of it, Citalopram 3-4 days ago. So far, I don't really feel any difference except a bit of drowsiness. I don't know if it's the medication though because I was drowsy before I started taking it. But yea, just drowsiness so far. I still feel the same other than that.

ah drowsiness - i definetly know that. been seeking therapy now - progress! and I mentioned the drowsiness and the fact that I can not think well, am apathic and forgetful... he said it is not convinced it is due to the medication even though i was not like this even at my worst and upped my dosage to 20mg. starting that now tonight - yay goin to be a rough couple of days. i didnt take my morning dose today and noticed that I was thinking more clearly....... made real plans to go to yoga and take a class at school! the drowsiness (assuming you mean sleepiness) does not last long and if it does then maybe try taking it at night?
I had a panic attack at work and had to leave early. also confided in a coworker, a close friend i have seen outside of work etc... she is no longer talking to me - this is making me feel very sad... has this happened to anyone? hoping the 20mg will go well! |
