Default Antidepressants for someone who is already a zombie...

I hear antidepressants make a lot of people feel like a zombie. I assume this means they barely feel anything anymore. Well that's pretty much me and I have never taken any antidepressants, but I'm supposed to start in January.

Zoloft was mentioned to me as a possibility at one point but I'll have a meeting with a different doctor before starting with any meds. I expect it to be some SSRI anyway.

I have looked at scientific studies on antidepressant effectiveness, and I have to say I'm not very impressed. I'm really skeptical they will be of help. That might just be negative thinking, I know.

Do you think they would be helpful to me at all? Will they just further numb my emotions? I don't even know if I'm really depressed. I do have a lot of the symptoms but I don't feel "down" all the time or anything like that. More like perpetually frustrated. Actually I strongly suspect I might have Inattentive ADD, in which case stimulants of amphetamines would probably be better.

Get tested for ADD and get amphetamine.

You could try an SNRI and gradually bump the dosage up. Worked wonders for me.

dude, man,.....SSRIs = MURDERERS of emotion. (for many people, some people don't get this side effect) but at least for me they were awful in that regards. if you get amphetamines, be sure to research mechanisms of amphetamine tolerance, and how to prevent such, and discuss with your doc....i just dont want people to get tolerant and stuff and get stuck in an amphetamine rut like i have in the past.

SSRIs, for me, just numbed me too the point where i didnt care that i was numb. i didnt feel emotion, felt nothing when i talked to girls, movies were hollow, colors were dull....not cool. but i was happier, i guess, in a weird, messed-up way. who knows....some people respond great to SSRIs....I don't have any real knowledge about this,....but, would SNRIs end up being more emotionally flattening, in the long run? not only are they SSRIs, but they would also cause Adrenergic activity to become downregulated and decreased, thus leading to more apathy and less excitement....i dont know about this though. Ritalin or Amphetamine + SSRI/SNRI = great combo, compared to just an SSRI/SNRI
