What's your motivation for studying?

So just wondering, what keeps you guys studying? Is it just something that you force yourself to do? Or for a career that you're actually really interested in?

Like currently, I am mostly just keeping up with the minimum and doing what is needed to pass. For now I seem to be getting by cuz its the first sem, but it's probably gonna get tougher and my lack of motivation is worrying... it doesn't really help that I don't really have friends in my tutorial classes so I'm mostly on my own during assignments and revision.

Most people I know just seem to getting a degree for the sake of getting a job. To be honest, I don't really see myself in any prospective careers in the modules that I am currently taking - Psychology, Eng Lit, Film Art etc. Mostly just out of interest, hardly passion. I feel somewhat indifferent to my grade actually. I just don't want to drop out cuz of omy parents... also I don't think I'm any more prepared or ready for the workforce. Idk, I just feel like I'm quite short sighted in my life goals. :serious:

I understand how you feel. When I feel sad, I tend to not study at all, which is bad. What motivates me is either thinking about the future (university, getting a career, having a happy life if I get good grades, etc.) or just forcing myself to do it most of the time. Getting bad grades is actually a fear of mine.

Yea there are periods when I'm feeling low... which can last for a week, where I just don't touch books and miss a few classes. Then I force myself to catch up, but its just so tiring and I doubt its gonna work if the workload increases. I try to think about my future career, but its just so far away... all I can think about is just getting through the week. Also, I worry about grades just enough to pass... sigh.

I guess the prospect of getting a good job keeps me going but sometimes I think what is the point when I will probably hate any job I have because of SA. But I do enjoy my degree (the subject interests me at least, other aspects of university life (socialising, seminar participation etc.) are not so good) so that is a strong motivator. Something in me thinks (or at least hopes) that when I finish university I will have grown and become confident so I can have a career I enjoy. Whether this is a realistic outcome or not, it is what keeps me motivated to study :)
Exactly, I am more worried about SA becoming a serious issue when in the working world. Job interviews, interacting with coworkers and speaking with bosses... Great to hear that you're enjoying studying what you study, not many people can say that. It's also my hope that my confidence will somehow grow after getting a degree. If that is successful... :b

I don't study. Don't really see the point of getting good grades when networking/social skills are what get you a good job (something I will probably never get).
That is what worries me greatly. I guess it also depends on what kind of job, but definitely at the very least, good communication and basic socialising is the core necessity for every job.

It's all about doing something I don't feel like doing and pushing myself to study in order to reach success. Success is the motivation. Success equals money in my goal setting.
Having enough money is certainly my idea of success, but just enough to support myself. I don't see myself living the high life, or climbing the corporate level. I'm stressed just thinking about it.

I don't study. Don't really see the point of getting good grades when networking/social skills are what get you a good job (something I will probably never get). I just go to school to learn about stuff/use university resources for my own selfish interests. The only time I ever studied was when I was on the verge of academic probation.

Money. I just want enough money to live my life in comfort. And for that, I need a degree. And I'm a perfectionist, so I need to be the best. Also, at my current job I make $9.28/hr for a job that should be easily making $15 instead with the amount of work we put in, and the knowledge we need to have. Retail pharmacy technicians are SO under-appreciated. I'm the head tech and if I don't show up to work, the entire pharmacy basically falls apart, but I'm still making just barely over minimum wage. And the annual raise I got, I was told I should be grateful for because it was over 50 cents. Seriously?? I can't believe with this amount of stress I have, I can even function normally outside of work.

I shouldn't be living in poverty doing this kind of work. I'm not flipping f**king burgers here.
