Exclamation New Forum Changes and Bugs

Thunder had the great idea of making a thread regarding the changes and bugs with the new forum. This is an updated version of that thread.

I am going to keep an updated list in this post. If you see something not listed here, please post a reply.

Changes:
  • Signature images are no longer allowed
  • Other Skins
    • Having skin options was discussed, but for now this one skin will be the only one available
  • Blog Forum
    • Might be coming back in another form open to all members
  • "View your posts" link
    • Now accessible via your User CP under the Statistics tab
  • Forums being public to all
    • I've restricted the following two forums to registered users:
      • Photo Album
      • Connections
  • GLBT Forum
    • PM me if you want access to the GLBT forum
Bugs:
  • Giant text in signatures
    • I hope that people will change their signatures with time via Social Anxiety Forum -- if that doesn't end up being the case please report offending signatures as replies to this thread
  • Private messages problems
    • I'm working on it.
Possible changes:
  • Youtube video embedding
  • Swear filter disabling

Well these were discussed in the other thread, but I'll mention them here. Not sure if you can add these or not.

A youtube link in the post reply section is gone. It enabled us to post the vids instead of just having to post the url link.

We're only allowed to post 4 emoticons. I'm sure some people would like to post a little more.

Can we get a language filter back? That way some ppl can see the foul language if they want.

Is there anyway to stop the message that says we have to wait 30 seconds to access the new posts? I pretty much used the "active topics" as my back button on the old board, and it's really frustrating when I'm trying to catch up on a couple threads. I scan one, maybe quick post, then click to go back to new posts and have to wait.

It would be nice if we could have an option to disable the swear filter per user. I'm not sure if that's possible in standard vBulletin, but there is probably a plugin that makes it possible.

Oh, and it would be cool if we could get rid of the "last edited by..." things that appear after editing posts now.

When you say that the Blog forum will be open to all members, do you mean that all members now can apply for access to the new Blog forum. Or do you mean that anyone who registers will be able to access the forum whether or not they have a blog?

I like that it used to be private. I know there are some people who know I come to this forum who I don't want coming here to "stalk" my posts and end up reading my blog, just because they registered. One of them has already registered and started posting on another one of my forums. It's something I can see them doing.

Thanks for your time.

Have a nice day,
Kelly

I'll have to look into the youtube video embedding.

I'll bump up the emoticons to 10.

The swear filter disable isn't a feature of vBulletin like you mentioned, but I'll consider adding it as a plugin.

Do you meant the 30 second waiting period to make a new topic or new reply? If that's the case, it's to prevent the server from being overloaded.

The "Last edited by" is going to stay. That way people know when others have changed their posts.

Nah, like, if you click "New Posts", and then click on a thread, and click "New Posts" again within 30 seconds, it will give you an error message telling you that you need to wait. It's pretty annoying, and I don't think it makes that big of a deal as far as the server goes.

Oh, and is there any way to let people disable the "social networking" aspect of their profiles? I know you can disable the messaging part, but I'm sure some people have issue with it showing "friends" lists as well as visitors to their pages...

Ahhh, I follow you. That's due to a 30 second minimum time between searches, which New Posts falls under. Searches can be server intensive. I dropped it down to 15 seconds.

As long as the emoticon minimum is three, I am okay!

Well, five, when I wish people happy birthday - four people and a cake.

Is there a way to get a male or female icon? Sometimes I don't know what gender the person is so it's harder to give an opinion about a situation.

There is a box, if you will, where you can scroll down to see your "inbox" and "outbox"......It says "Jump to Folder".... (after you click on private messages under your Username at the top of the page).

Yep, a lot of people are having that same problem (myself included). It sounds like Drew's working on it.

I agree about the 80x80

100 x 100 works well, IMO.

All lot of cutsom ones that you can upload are usually this dimension, so when you try to upload them, if they are "graphic" and move, they won't because of the resizing. So, yeah.

Forums keeps being marked read without having been and I've yet to figure out why, except when they actually should be marked read they're not.

Just a little grievance, but the "You have X posts in this thread" icon could be a little more distinguishable from the other icons.
