I found that to be useful because a lot of times you can't tell their gender by their name and avatar. |

Yeah that would be nice. It's like age (if they give it) - it gives more context to what people are saying.

I would use this feature. I think I mixed someone up one time, and it was kind of embarrassing cause they quoted me (I'm male, btw)

A problem with a unisex name: Drew Carey & Drew Barrymore, for example.
And I agree the gender field is an excellent idea. In the past I've had to click on profiles to figure out if they're male or female because they picked a user name & avatar that is gender neutral. Or some will put up an avatar that would make me think the opposite of which gender they area. Nice to put an end to the mystery.
