You can't be stupid about it though. It's still important to be realistic. For example, if you suffer from SA you're not going to be a stand up comedian now are you?? As much as you may want to be.

Unless you're able to make it a part of your act somehow.

I have to disagree with you here. If you watch some interviews on TV with celebrities, from actors to singers, some of them can't even put together a sentence. However, their performance on stage is amazing. Its a matter of handling it, comedian would be harder I'm sure because you have to be quick on your feet, but thats for anyone, not just people with SA.

you can do whatever you want to do, as long as you want it bad enough. Two years ago I worked as a chef-trainee at a restaurant for almost a year. That's probably one of the most socializing things you can do, of course I didn't know I had SA. I dropped out after a year cause I was mentally and physically exhausted.
All I ever want to do is music. I now study music and I'm a singer/songwriter. Everyday is really really though to get through because it includes alot of socializing, but I HAVE to do this otherwise I will go nuts and explode. I experience frequent panic attacks and I have bad SA but it's all worth it. Cause I get to do what I want.

Yeah, it's important to be realistic (I don't think the OP is planning on becoming a stand up comic, though), but if you seriously want to do something, you shouldn't let SA hold you back.

I want to be a teacher and everyday I wonder why I'm following this path because I feel I'll never be able to stand up and talk to people for hours and hours a day, but I want to do it, so I will.

i used to work in medical records and it was nice because you don't really have to deal with the public. You do have to get over any issues you may have with talking on the phone because you could be on the phone a lot. As for transcription, from what I've seen you definitely won't be talking with your co-workers like most people do. You will have to talk on the phone to doctors and other offices, but at least you don't have to deal with the patients. Hope that helped a little.

Default I've finally decided, sort of...

It has been so hard to make a decision on what path to take. I've applied for jobs like housekeeping, custodial, mail room, and patient check in clerk. It's been only a week but I've been consumed. If I could just sort mail at the post office for the rest of my life, I'd be set. But I can't rely on them responding.

So, I've decided to, in the meantime, go back to school. I'm getting an associate's in "office professional". This would qualify me for receptionist, administrative assistant, plus. It'll take me 3 semesters. That's okay, I guess. For someone with SA, maybe going to school is less pressure than going to work. And maybe, by that time, I will have found a cure for myself?(yeah, right).

I tell myself to, I have to remind myself, to be hopeful and optomistic. But I can't help but believe more that even after succeeding in these classes, I'll fail miserably when I finally get that job because everyone will be so turned off by me, I'll be so intimidated by the boss and chatty co-workers.

I hear how people make 180,000/year. I just want to make 24,000. I can live happily off of that. But I also need daytime hours. That limits me severely.

Why won't the post office call me?

I know exactly how you feel, I applied for a job at Publix and never received a call back from them. Ironically I was almost relieved that I didn't have to endure an interview.

You should always call an employer before they call you back. It shows them you're proactive and really desire the job.
