Default What does High Strung mean?

I was having a conversation with a classmate today when he made a comment about me being high strung. I've heard the term used before but what exactly does it mean? Does it imply that I'm anxious or just that I'm excitable? (There is a difference between those two terms in my mind). Is it a negative characteristic to have? I hope he ment well by calling me that or else I'm gonna feel awkward around him.

I've been called this ALL my life!!-It means nervous and easily upset, overly emotional. I would REALLY despise being the opposite-bland,unemotional with the personality of a pet rock.
