The most random kind of small talk

Some random person has added me on facebook, ok that happens and I just click off it but they're friends with a friend of mine on it and they both happen to be from Africa. I don't know if it's a random add or they know my friend. Then I look and there's a message in my inbox saying how is the weather over here and saying they hope I'm fine and wish me all the best . I don't know what to say... haven't replied yet... I don't want to be rude... it's a tad straange though

I would say to make the answer short and ask the person how they know your friend.

I had that happen too a couple of times. I don't know but maybe internet access/media in general is very limited there and they just want to talk to people from other countries?

Yeah I thought that since they only have like 12 friends listed too. I'm not big on small talk especially with someone I don't know in anyway and it's online lol. I hate replying to people I actually know online so...
