Default SA'ers less prone to addiction?

It seems to me that real hardcore drug addiction, hoarding, like seen in the A&E shows requires other people as enablers. Maybe it is seperate from SA, but I would never want to use people like that, and I think part of my SA is being very sensitive, I care about what people think, so it would keep me from becoming a crackhead.

I wouldn't count porn unless you masturbate like ten times a day. And curb, I've done other drugs, the point's not that I wouldn't be physically addicted to physically addictive substances, but that I wouldn't let myself be a leech. I'd rather kill myself than beg from people or make my relative's lives hell.

Not sure there's any correlation, but I've done just about every drug there is, and I haven't become addicted to any of them.
Perhaps you're right. If I were more social, I could have more access to the drugs and take more of them, and maybe become addicted. But as it is, I've done them recreationally and that's just fine.
Even alcohol. I'm a huge drinker, but sometimes I go months without a beer and I'm ok with it. But that could just be something with genes.
Actually, I think there's a part of the brain that allows more easily for addictions too.

I agree. I smoked weed pretty much every day for 7 years, then switched to booze. Only just decided to quit - and it's not easy! It was complete self-medication (weed for depression, beer for social phobia), no other reason.

Addictions to other stuff too - video games and comfort eating for example. Oh, and now I have a very healthy internet addiction (look how long I've been a member of this site, and how many times I've posted!).

SA causes lonelines which causes depression

loneliness and depression cause drug use to escape crappy reality....

Most drug addicts, if not all, are really depressed deep down inside.

From my own experience, I wasn't immune from addiction.

I've never done any hard drugs ever. Because I've seen what it can do to people when they get addicted and their families. I already am a burden on my family so I wouldn't want to **** them up even more.

I try my best to get through a night out like bars and clubs without alcohol but it's a struggle. I usually get home depressed again at why I just can't be myself and not so awkward.

I think that my sa does not expose me to drugs and things. If i had friends(the whole peer pressure thing) and went to clubs i would more likely be exposed to drugs and i would certainly drink more. I only drink in moderation and i don't smoke o'r do drugs.

I must admit that simply not wishing to become involved with others (particularly those who gravitate around the criminal market) has probably spared me an enormous amount of drug related heartache .

I'd say it does, which is why I don't drink (never have either). I'm afraid I might like it too much and seeing as legal drinking age is 16 (or 18 for the hardcore stuff) where I live, getting it wouldn't be much of a problem.

I think Sa'ers are more prone to be addicted to anything. Like videogames of porn or maybe something good like basketball or a musical instrument. How many friends do you think beethoven had?

People with SA are known to be considerably more prone to drug abuse than your average person. As people have said, we tend to self-medicate, especially since the problem itself makes you terrified of going out and getting real help.

I don't think there's a lot to say that people with SA are more prone to addiction/dependence, but they are far more often poly-drug abusers. If anything, they are more "addicted" to escaping their problems through any means necessary rather than actually dependent on any specific illicit substance.

As others have pointed out, a lot of people with SA, particularly with the more severe cases, often shield themselves from the world too much to be exposed to things like drugs. I'm a good example of how this is not always the case though, as I've had a lot of exposure through an immediate family member, and anything I've done I've pretty much either bought through him or over the Internet...
