Default Rubbing your face

Well I called it that but it's not really like that. Does anyone rub or hide parts of their face, especially mouth, when they're anxoius? Sometimes it's just occastionally like stroking the side of my face from my forehead to chin. I think it can be obvious and I try to stop but I can't help it.
Anyone else do it?

I think a lot of folk with SA tend to do something like that. it varies from person to person. I used to keep moving my watch on my wrist when I got anxious, so I stopped wearing a watch. Then the next thing was constantly fiddling with a silver chain that i wore so I stopped wearing that too.
Obviously its more difficult if your habit is rubbing yer face. But its nothing unusual. Now that you're aware of it, just try to gradually phase it oot.

I do something like that, I cover my mouth with a hand when I speak to people I'm not comfortable with, or I hold a hand over my throat.
It's sometimes hard for people to hear what I say since I muffle myself.

Now that I think about it, it must look pretty funny. Like I'm trying to make myself shut up, or maybe even strangle myself.

You feel like people are looking at you so you fiddle with something. Your hair, your clothes, whatever. Now you feel like you've REALLY drawn attention to yourself so you keep at it. It's just making you more nervous!

What you've gotta do is relax yourself instead of fiddling. Be still. Not statue-still, but calm-still. Take some deep breaths, maybe close your eyes.. Relax your body for a moment. I don't know, maybe picture the face of someone you're really comfortable with... Or count backwards from 10 in your head or something... I'm sure there are different relaxation techniques you could do on the spot. All of them are better than rubbing your face or nervously fiddling with something. I know it, I used to do the face thing too. Not so much any more.

i can’t be sitting down in a chair with out leaning to the side and resting my chin on the palm of my hand while the pointing finger is on my lips. when standing up i cross my arms. if i don’t do any of these, i feel vulnerable.

I do that a lot. I'll usually scratch my cheeks when someone starts to talkingto me in case I start blushing, it doesn't hide it but I do it anyway.

I touch or rub my nose, I used to do it a lot more than I do now, I only do it when I wear my hair up. Now I play with my hair.
When I notice I'm doing it I get anxious that the person talking to me knows why I'm doing it and makes me more nervous.

I fake yawn if they're looking and pull faces like I have tourettes or something if they look away.
I also drag my foot when walking away from a person I've just spoken too or walk like a zombie, closing my eyes and forcing myself to stumble.
Consequently, I trip alot.

Also if I have a weird social exchange, I'll walk away and slam myself into a wall or repeat our conversation in a chirpy voice as if scolding myself for speaking.

Its alot like,
"Hello Kelly, how're you this morning?"
"Good, how're you?" *D'oh, what'd I say that for?! I sound stupid!*

"How was your night?"
"Good." *That was a bit high-pitched, better tone it down next time.*

Its really ridiculous.

I rub the side of my nose or scratch my chin or press on my forehead. I also bite and chew on my lips at times.

After reading through all those posts I realize I do a mixture of everything. Rubbing my chin, cheeks, forehead, chewing on my bottom lip fairly often, running my hand through my hair, scratching my head, and when I sit down I rest my chin slightly on my palm and cover my mouth. Guess I have a lot to work on . . .
