Anti-Psychiatry things are usually sponsored by Scientologists, there used to be people who handed out anti-psychiatrist propaganda all over campus.

I pretty much agree with the videos. and it's actually something I semi-agree on with Scientologists.
It's the first time I've heard of Drapetomania - the tendency of black slaves to flee captivity. and I do think that giving a child a psychiatric drug should be considered more of a poison than a treatment.

Yeah, there's no such thing as mental disorders. Social Anxiety Disorder is just all in my head.

pharmaceutical companies want to make money, simple as.
that's not to say mental health problems don't exist, but it's still important to be aware that a lot of that industry is corrupted. I also agree that young children shouldn't be given psychiatric drugs or labelled mentally ill.

While I think psychiatry can be beneficial in a lot of cases, I think simply handing out meds and diagnosing people with 'disorders' does more harm than good.
In my case, when I first found out about SA I naturally thought: "It's not my fault, I have a disorder!", and used that as a crutch for a long time. It led me to believe I was a victim and mostly powerless against it. Now however, I just use the term 'SA' to describe my overall shyness and introversion - I don't believe I have a disorder. Believing that there is something wrong with you instinctively makes you feel that it isn't your responsibility - that you're a victim. It causes you to look for fixes instead of acknowledging that it is indeed your responsibility and YOU are the one that ultimately has to put the effort in and change. Relying on lazy psychiatrists who like to label you as 'sick' and throw expensive meds at you isn't the answer. I'm not dissing psychiatry and meds altogether, for some cases they are genuinely beneficial. I'm just not a fan of anyone who makes a buck out of offering quick fixes to those who are suffering.

Well there is a lot of evidence that says that psychological disorders have psychological causes. Psychiatry likes to say that people get "brain imbalances" that can make people behave or think a certain way. They would rather treat mental illness like a biological entity when in reality, there could be nothing abnormal going on at all. And of course the medication is selling higher than ever.
I think Elizabeth Wurtzel wrote something like, People who rely on antidepressants to get through their lives do so because they have felt terrible for so long that it's basically impossible to go back to how they used to feel. So you go on medication and then get weaned off it, but if your life and/or behavior is still the same, you're going to go right back on it.
