Default Old school reports

I was just looking through all my old school reports and found this whilst reading my year 4 one, i only joined the school at the start of year 4, so thats what she's talking about! It just seems really weird to read that i was 'very popular', and it's quite sad that now i'm very unpopular! Does anyone else get upset when looking at reports, and seeing how different they where then to now?

'Fiona is a kind and caring girl. She is quiet in class, however she has a great sense of humour and is thoughtful thus making her very popular. She had has settled in so well it feels as if she has been with us for longer. She works well in all group situations. Fiona is a lovely girl and i have been lucky to have taught her. I will miss her so much next year.'

I feel angry when reading through my old reports, when I notice how little the teachers understood me.

For example, one report said "Katie has no sense of humour". Yet every playtime I'd be with my best friend laughing the whole time. I was just too shy to show any emotion in class, but no teacher could identify that. They all just wrote that I'm too quiet and I need to participate more.

I was never popular though...I always had severe SA.

Mine said things like, hopefully J will make friends next year. My pre-school teacher wanted to hold me back from going to kindergarden because I was too quiet.

I always got "unsatisfactory" in all of the behavior sections. I was a little hellraiser. However I always did have one or two friends, it seems.

That's so rude of your teacher to say that!!!!

I always got:

'quiet achiever' and 'Maike is gaining a little more confidence this year'

I also got the 'well-liked' etc etc as well, who knows - that was in Primary school.

In high school I got - 'has potential, doesn't use it', although got some good comments for art class

Now that I'm out of school, I hope that I never hear those two words together - quiet achiever - ever again in my life. I got that every single time.
School reports seemed like such a big deal at the time, but now they just seem trivial. They consistently conveyed the tone of a teacher madly evaluating how many students they had in a short period of time, without wanting to be confrontational. Rough gig.

Every single report card I would get always said:

"Jolene is very bright, but doesn't apply herself."
"Clearly smart, but needs to improve attendance."
"Doesn't interact with other students well."

Ect ect.

Then if you were to show your emotion in class the teachers wouldn't like it and consider putting you on Ritalin.

Don't think I had any of those, my SAD didn't set in til I was a teenager and the teachers didn't write long reports. I did get a couple of short "needs to interact" or "more class participation" though.

In college when writing some sort of personal report I didn't mention SAD I just said something like "I feel everyone is watching and judging me" and the teacher wrote back "But they're not." Right...

Up until grade 6, I was always getting in trouble for acting up too much in class.

I remember once my teacher told my parents something to the effect of "I feel bad for the woman your son is going to marry because she is going to need a lot of patience to put up with his endless energy and talking."

Stuff like that is just unbelievable in retrospect. I was thinking in the car today at one point did I begin changing. I cannot remember, it just seemed to appear sometime around middle school, that's all I know.
