I desperately need a job, but I have absolutely no job experience and I just graduated late in August due to health issues. I need some money to support myself before I can even think about going in Winter term for school. Yet, I'm absolutely terrified of working in a fast food place. All those people... ugghhh. Which I probably won't anyway since no one has called me. How do you get a job when you're skilled at nothing? |

everyone's got to start somewhere. maybe you could work in retail, which isn't so fast paced and anxiety inducing.

fast food chains will hire anyone they just need to know you can understand the register and work in a team..
Add achievements in school, Clubs or Teams you were a part of, say you Volunteer in something. |

You have to call them back
Companies usually won't call applicants |

Be patient, the places you applied to hire all the time. This is because they have high turnover of employees. I wouldn't stop there though, to increase your chances apply to more businesses in your local area. The more places you apply to, the higher the chance of getting the job.

Fast food looks like a really stressful field to be in. You have to deal with customers angry because their food wasn't 100% perfect on top of the blatant power play and mind games that go on among the employees with any retail position. If you can, try to steer away from retail because you don't want to be stuck in it for the rest of your life if you can do better. I've seen a lot of my coworkers grow bitter and angry because of retail.
All you can do is keep applying. Know that for every job you apply for there might be about 30-100 other people who applied as well so you have to stand out somehow or get lucky. It helps to get to know the place you really want to work for - I know of two guys who got their jobs at a certain game store because they hang out there all the time and know the managers. |

I had an easier time adjusting to retail work than fast food. I worked at Burger King for about three months at the end of high school and felt like my soul was slowly being sucked out every day. You still will probably have to interact with customers in retail (though some positions less so), but it's usually less fast-paced and a little easier to psych yourself up for customer interactions. Plus you actually feel like you accomplished something at the end of the day (something I never felt at BK).
