Default I got diagnosed with Aspergers

Today I got diagnosed with aspergers syndrome after going through different psychiatrists and doctors telling me it was just my anxiety.

I have anxiety but it was actually being caused by being expected to function and not being able to!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome

I bet some of you guys have been misdiagnosed too!

Well, if you weren't diagnosed by anyone you saw before, but did this time, how does that mean the latest time was correct? I wouldn't go accepting such a thing just like that, you seem perfectly fine to me.

What did they do to diagnose you? And what type of professional did you go to?
I strongly believe I have Asperger's and have been considering finding someone to go to for an analysis.

I don't know if anyone before did diagnose me with a certain thing before, I asked if I had autism but they said I didn't. Before it was a few counsellors, my GP and a childrens psychiatrist. This time it was with a community psychiatric nurse and another psychiatrist in the same room with me, they said aspergers is often missed because doctors get shown classic cases of autism - apsergers isn't as severe so goes unnoticed. Well of course I seem perfectly normal on the internet... apsergers doesn't really affect you like that. I have to see a pathological psychiatrist some time next week because I want to 'harm' people, I'm not fine.

They asked me lots of questions about when I was younger and how I would act in situations etc, and they made me fill out a questionnaire and I scored quite high on that, they asked my mother too who was with me, you should see your doctor and ask to see a psychiatrist if you can

Sorry to hear. At least you know what you're really suffering from now.

Aspbergers has some advantages for occupations to it as well once you dig into the research a bit more. I'd suggest peer reviewed journals and sites like ERIC if you want to get a good grasp of the subject. Psychology as a soft science has its issues, but it does a bit of good.

I got diagnosed with it. If you would like any information or have any questions feel free to ask me at any time. It is important you are fully informed about the diagnosis and can make up your own mind about it.

Thanks guys.

I've known about aspergers for a long time and people always thought I had it when I was younger. If you think you have it, you need to consult a professional with a lot of experience. They explained to me how doctors and other mental health professionals just watch videos of the classic stereotypical person with autism (staring at the floor talking to themselves) But aspergers is quite different and it's an "invisible illness", so it doesn't get noticed easily. I always thought it was social anxiety but when I read about it, it matched apart from the part about the fear of people judging me, I didn't have that - I don't really care what people think of me. I get anxiety because they want me to do something I can't do - like interact with them. People with aspergers can act normal but it's very difficult.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Aspergers. It's all about attitude. Don't think of yourself as having a disability or being upset about it. Instead, think of it as a personality type and that you can still lead a wonderful life!
If you want to talk to someone who has both anxiety and Aspergers, feel free to message me!! I know what you're going through.

"Instead, think of it as a personality type"

I'm glad I got diagnosed, because now I don't have to attempt to talk to people and be expected to be normal when I can't be

I think he had more severe autism. I think Asperger's is closer, to say, Sheldon from Big Bang Theory...

No,he was an autistic savant, which is actually quite rare-most people with autism do not have those sorts of extreme abilities. There's a large range of autism disorders - from people who cannot speak to people who are only mildly affected.

It can be impossible in some regions because they lack specialists. There are a few fortunate areas, but in general service provision is terrible. The National Autistic Society has information on services and its I Exist campaign for adults.

Yes. Rainman is cited by Lorna Wing as an example of a high-functioning autistic of the aloof category.

ive been tested for aspergers but dont have it allegadly, i think i have sa but im not so sure about aspergers still need to tell someone i think i have social anxiety. Think my main problem is taht i think i have a odd voice in which i try and not talk. I Have a slight lisp and a odd voice anyway but mixed with Sa mumbles it really f**ks stuff up and makes me fear to speak i count down the names in the register then a sudden wave of fear hits me when its getting closer. Then i think i sound odd then anyway.
Not sayin its 100% about the voice though just think its mostly affects me with my voice. ++ My anxiety gets worse when i think about having anxiety. Normally i just day dream in school.
