Question Has anyone experienced this sort of thing?

I was wondering if anyone has been in a situation like this:where you ran into someone you know(or knew),and you suddenly got red in the face, heart started pounding which made you feel like it was a hundred degrees, and were all of a sudden really nervous and didn't know what to say?Are these similar symptoms people have had?

I've definitely had that happen before. A lot. I'm also paranoid when I see random people that I know them and sometimes I'll start panicking before I realize I don't even know them.

Same here. I am very uncomfortable in places I might be seen by somebody I know, such as a local mall, restaurant or park. Instead, I prefer to travel a little bit farther to ensure that I dont come across someone i know.

omg same here. when i go to the local stores near my home/school, i try to avoid them, knowing that i will see people from my high school hanging out at the benches or something.

Every symptom except the blushing. Never developed that. I make up for it with profuse sweating.

I go through everything you do. I'll be perfectly fine until I see someone I went to school with or whoever, and then I have a little panic attack. I see how much they've grown and changed and how confident they are now, and I feel like the same pathetic person I was before. I feel really embarrassed and ashamed when I run into people from the past.

This happened to me yesterday. There was a mirror nearby too for me to confirm that, yes, I was tomato red. I don't like surprises, although the conversation did turn out well (for me).

It makes me nervous to see people I know out in public. I usually try to hide so they don't see me, or I pretend not to notice them.

I too have nearly had heart attacks when I thought I saw someone I knew, but it turned out to be a complete stranger.

Same. I'd rather go a little out of my way so I don;t meet anyone I remotely know. Even people from uni that don't really know but may know me by association, I'd rather not see.

If someone says hello or tries to talk to me, one of two things happen.. I either stutter and go red-faced, or I manage to have a bit of small talk and kinda have the body behaviour of someone uncomfortable, and can't wait to carry on walking. I hate that little awkward moment where you have nothing to say and nor does the person you bumped into, and neither of you have the courage to say bye...

Yes, I have had that happen several times, in stores and on the bus. When I see someone I know, or someone I went to school with, I just pretend I didn't see them or didn't recognize them.

I do that to, pretend I didn't see them..

I don't tend to blush, but I definitely do the whole deer in headlights followed by flustered awkwardness thing.

I definately relate to all these symptoms, but unfortunately I generally keep walking out of fear to stop and talk. I then kick myself over this for days, weeks and even years to come... Why??? I totally freak...

ha yes indeed. i'm always worried im going to bumb into someone i know in public and like sometimes i do see someone i know and try desperately hard to avoid being seen by them.

But yeah it is almost always awkward for me because there is loads of other people around and i hate feeling like someone is listening to my conversation.

but god yeah my heart pounds fast and loud. i dont know what you can do to fix it...you just need to relax and wiggle your toes to relieve the tension.
