I think there's something awesome about melancholy songs...to name a few off the top of my head (with links & everything):

Träd, Gräs och Stenar's cover of All Along The Watchtower
Six Organs Of Admittance - Anesthesia
Robert Wyatt - Sea Song
Damon & Naomi - A Second Life
Fields Of The Nephilim - and There Will Your Heart Be Also
Fairport Convention - Poor Will & The Jolly Hangman
Mark Lanegan - Riding The Nightingale

radiohead - street spirit (fade out)
radiohead - exit music (for a film)
goo goo dolls - iris
third eye blind - god of wine
matchbox twenty - hang
counting crows - perfect blue buildings
live - lightning crashes
our lady peace - 4am
rem - everybody hurts
red hot chili peppers - under the bridge
gary jules - mad world (you already listed that one though)
the cure - homesick

Got most of them from a list someone else posted on here years ago, used to listen to them fairly often when depressed. Not the usual bands i listen to (cept for Radiohead), but they're good.

Also, half of Malcolm Middleton's songs.

Oh and Johnny Cash - Hurt. Can't believe noone mentioned that one.

Time in a bottle - Jim Croce (This song always brings me to tears because my mom used to play it for me on the piano)
The Who - Behind Blue eyes (This song is another one of those)
Radiohead - Creep, My life PERIOD.
Kansas - Dust in the Wind - beautifully truthful and painful song

Neva Dinova-I've got a feeling

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nl30OXrM8M

I listen to this song a lot when I'm really depressed.

I mean with lyrics like 'What is this world without Pain? Aint a god da.mn thing..just a rock floating through the universe. The worlds a sh1tty place, and I can't wait to die'

Very comforting in a weird way..to me atleast.

Man I love songs like these... they help me get "nice and depressed"... I feel like I have a daily required doseage of depressed time and these songs help get there.

A lot of Hinder songs for some reason: Lips of an Angel, Far From Home, Better Than Me, Best is Yet to Come, ...the list goes on and on. This is my band.

Our Lady Peace: 4am, Not Enough, Innocent

Matchbook Romance: Promise... great song.

Simple Plan: Perfect

They actually make me feel better.
Especially when nobody is home and I can sing them aloud. :P

Radiohead - pretty much everything, but especially No Surprises. I love them, but they can be a downer.
