Fear of becoming homeless?

Does anyone else have an intense fear of becoming homeless? My mom is the only person I have in the world, and I'm scared to death that if she ever dies I'll be homeless. I'm on ssi for my SA, but its not nearly enough for a person to survive alone on, I also haven't learned how to do anything for myself, I don't even know our landlords address to send the rent to. I know if and when she dies I'm gonna be out on the streets, it scares me.

I'm afraid of this too. I am far from being responsible enough to live independently.

re: Fear of becoming homeless?

That's a big fear of mine as well. Probably for alot of folks as well. The way the system is and the way you have to have good credit for everything, I'm surprised more people are not homeless. Don't they say most families are 3 paychecks away from being homeless.

I know what you mean. I've tried and failed at moving out on my own twice now. I guess all you can do is keep on trying to gain some kind of independance.

just thinking about the possiblity of having a fear of becoming homeless scares me. i truly hope that i am never put in that position, and that someday i may help people who are put in that position.

Pretty much the same here. I have one brother left, but he only comes to visit maybe every other month. If not for my mother I'd be alone and talking to the wall I guess.

My mother turns 78 next month and I'm well aware that death will surely happen at some point and she keeps getting closer to that point. I'm old enough to already have a dead father & one dead brother.

If she were to die right now the money I'd inherit plus what I already have would total $2 million, so it doesn't look like I'm going to be homeless. Totally alone in the world and going insane, but doing so under a roof.

re: Fear of becoming homeless?

I am really scared of becoming homeless. I never really think of it tho. I have no friends to go live with if somthing happened to my parents, I dont like to think of life without my parents because I will either be dead, in jail or like the topic, homeless.

I thought a lot about it in high school but not so much now. It's a scary though cos my parentts support me and i'm really dependant on them and because of my social phobia i can never move out. I'll probably end up homeless one day.

re: Fear of becoming homeless?

Oh my God. This is seriously why I love this board so much, because of threads like this and being able to relate to you guys. I'm in the same situation, my mom is all I have, she's basically my source for survival and I'm way too dependent on her. I have scary thoughts and I worry about something happening to her, I'd be ****ed. I have a big family so there are different options like living with my grandma (who takes care of a bunch of brats) or my aunt or my dad or his mom who I hardly speak to, but I think I'd almost rather be homeless than do that. Well maybe not, but it would be very uncomfortable and horrible for me to have to change everything I'm used to.

Still I send all the time
My request for relief
Down the dead power lines
Though I'm beyond belief
In the help I require
Just to exist at all
Took a long time to stand
Took an hour to fall

Same here. There are a lot of things I don't know how to do.
It's like I've become so comfortable with my situation, I don't even try.
I know I need to change that.

I was hit on by a bum who wants to marry me so there's a prospect.

Yeah, I live in constant fear that my parents will die in a freak accident, and I'll end up on the streets and then starve or freeze to death. I'm way too old to depend this much on my parents.

I have this fear as well. I've never had a job and I don't know how to do anything on my own.

Yeah, me too. I can imagine myself having to sell my own blood just to buy a sandwich.

re: Fear of becoming homeless?

I have this fear too, but my parents are still pretty young (early 50's) and i'm only 20, but i know they won't be here forever. so that's why i'm trying to get over sa and not live like this forever. i still have my sis and bro too. i feel useless sometimes because i'm 20 years old and never had a job and i really want to support my parents instead of them supporting me.

when i was 16 i used to think if something were to happen to my family i would commit suicide and die with them. i do think about that sometime now, but not as often. i seriously don't want to be homeless. it's a scary thought.
