Hahaha yes! Once you stop fretting and trying to figure out what's "wrong" with you, and just admit to your own geekery, you can finally come to see that this is a huge positive. "Normal" is just another word for boring.

I'm more of a dork.

Now that I think of it, maybe a dork is just a geek who hasn't reached his full potential

Oh I don't know... I think everyones definition is probably a little different.

For me, it's like I have hobbies and interests that I'm passionate about, and in my leisure I like to do stuff that I truly enjoy rather than, let's say... going out to bars getting smashed and doing blow.

Not that going out doing stuff isn't fun, I just don't seem to be interested in the same things as most.

That's just my $ 0.02, though.

I'm probably more of a weirdo than a geek.

I'm seconding Jay's definition here. Geekery to me mostly means having interests beyond inebriation that you are passionate about. Any definition more specific than that would be delving into particular flavors of geek.

I would say that I fall somewhere in between a nerd and a goof on the geek scale. The nerdy part of me enjoys words, learning about pretty much everything, anything with subtitles, sappy romances, and taking pretty pictures, while the goof end takes care of my incurably absurd sense of humor and secret dance parties.

Any other geek flavors we can bring into this discussion? They are all wonderful!

Yes, I'm a geek, I'm happy to label myself a geek.. but certainly not a nerd. I know some and it's been made quite clear that I'm not one of them.

geek/nerd, what's the difference.
My brother always told me it's good to be called a nerd because it really means you're brilliant at what you do. ^_^

I have anime and videogames piled on my shelves and a bookcase filled with fantasy and sci-fi, so I guess it's pretty hard to refute.

As I see it, there are three concepts to grapple with here:

1. Geek
2. Nerd
3. Dork

A geek is someone who is completely preoccupied with a particular subject or activity, n'est ce pas? And said geek thinks that others will be just as fascinated by it. These days, seems to be considered mostly a computing sort of thing? like programming, online gaming, etc? However I don't think the term is, technically speaking, strictly limited to that. For example I am geeky about art.

A dork is simply an awkward person.

A nerd is.....hm.....not sure about that one. but it sounds like something I am.

I am a gerdork?
