Default Can't stop thinking of something embarrassing?

Everytime i'm at home or sitting down somewhere, thinking. I can't stop getting these memories/pictures in my mind of embarrassing moments that have happened or could happen to me.

Is anyone else also having this problem? It's kinda annoying.

It just happens right when I'm about to give an interview ...

Yes indeed, it comes in stages. When I was younger-it was really bad...I couldn't concentrate because of it. It's gottin' mild with age.

Yeah, and it doesn't help that I have a lot of material to draw from.

Know what you mean and you have to sort of hit your head and yell 'Get out!'

Yes, I get these all the time but only occasionally. So what I do is think positive and forget about it because I know that the people really don't think anything of it (and they really don't.)

Mostly only when I'm trying to sleep. It's very very bad when this happens during sleep because even if you're completely exhausted, these thoughts really anger me and get the adrenaline flowing. I used to lay in my bed for hours.

I always do this and the only way I can get it out of my head is bu doing other crap to distract myself. I've even sat for an hour or two thinking of multiple occasions where I did something stupid and embarrassed myself and those things happened years ago.

Think of something else. I recently noticed that if it's an immediate thing, like I'm nervous walking in somewhere or up to something, focusing on any little random thing or things like looking around the room helps. For deeper thoughts, shaking it off and doing pleasant or productive things helps.

Here's an article on thinking about something else to avoid temptation: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...urrentPage=all It's a good read -- has the preston2 seal of approval ;-)

I'm the same way. It's rather irritating, but what makes it worse is when I think of one bad thing, I tend to think of another, and they just all pile up. So when it seems like I'm getting upset about one small thing I'm actually getting upset about this big huge pile of bad things.

Getting distracted sometimes helps, but you need to find something distracting enough, and sometimes the thoughts distract from getting into the distracting thing!

Yes. All of the time. I also shout something outloud when it happens. Usually a cuss.

Yes, I always have these unpleasant flashbacks. In fact, I hear some strange internal voice telling me to "kill myself' every time I do.

All day every day. I've experienced embarrassing moments in college that were so traumatizing that they're part of what's keeping me from getting a better job.

I feel so embarrassed for myself whenever this happens. I even think about stupid things I've done in 7th grade. Things that no one else (and I mean no one) has given a second thought. We should stop torturing ourselves like this.
