Default Asking teachers for help

Asking teachers for help has always been tough for me, since I was at school. I'm not at college, and when I ask a teacher for help (man or woman), I can't look at them directly, just pretend like I'm listening when in fact I didn't hear or take in anything they were telling me. I don't know what to do.. I can't even take standing up in front of the class as it makes me heat up.

I totally understand. I had the same problem. I would try and e-mail my professors or ask after class instead of raising my hand, especially in small classes. e-mail would work best because I could work on the wording so I didn't sound like an idiot. Luckily, most teachers hand out e-mails these days

Oh, I've been there.

I found that instead of listening, all I was doing was listening to my worries or myself saying "i can't wait until this is over".

This leads to me not getting the answer, despite building up the courage to even ask. And now i can't even ask again.

... email is a good idea.

But I found affirmation helped me listen actively in the future. Before class if you find a quiet area, like a bathroom stall.

Read yourself something like: "I am calm and I listen to everything that my lecturers say"

Try this before every lecture for 6 weeks. And see if it helps.
