Default Another fear that someone wants to hurt/kill me...

Okay, so I took my laptop to class today. When I opened it up, resumed from where I left off. The problem is that I was on a Christian chat room the last time was on it. Now I'm worried that someone wants to hurt/kill me because I'm a Christian.

btw, a while ago the teacher asked who in the room was Catholic and some people raised their hands. If someone was gonna hurt someone for being Christian, they would have already done it to the people that raised their hands right?

oh yeah, if you guys wanna know what it has to do with social anxiety... It's because if could talk to people, I'd probably know the people that I'm worried about well enough to know they would do it or not...

Chances are that no-one even noticed and even if they did they probably didnt give it another thought. No-one will kill or hurt you.

btw: Have you tried disrupting your thoughts? How is that going?

No one will want to hurt or kill you because you're a Christian - except for Osama Bin Laden but hopefully he won't take your class (unless it's art), I hear he's pretty good at cave paintings!

Most people are very nice, it's just you don't realise they are - hey, it's better opening up your laptop to a Christian forum in class than opening it up on a porn site!

I've seen very similar threads like this for quite some time. Are they serious? Not trying to down-play anything but its a severely irrational fear, and if this is a true fear, you need to see a therapist if you aren't already.

I know that nothing we say to the contrary is going to dispel your fear, you need a professional to help you with that, but just think that, most of the population is Christian, its not like you are a minority, no one wants to hurt you because of that. I promise.

No one would have a distinct reason for targetting you specifically. What have you done to provoke such action - nothing! I am a Christian, and yes, there are people out there who want to kill Christians, but I know that God's got my back. If I go, I go. Do I want to? Not for a LOOOONG time.

You'd already be gone. The other students in the class are just as likely as you are. They have not done anything either.

Thought process - take every thought into submission.

This definitely sounds like severe OCD, if not borderline schizotypal. Bring it up to your therapist ASAP.

Yeah, but you are downplaying it. You would think that being on a social anxiety forum, and having SAD, would cause people to sympathize with irrational fears. How would you like it if I went, "Oh my god, your afraid of socializing, are you serious?"

I agree that his fears are irrational, but your last sentence is a little illogical. There was a church shooting by some angry atheist a year ago. Being a majority doesn't grant you immunity from hate. It is silly to think otherwise, and just promotes reverse-discrimination.

What is your problem? People come to these boards for support, and they get comments like this?

Im just trying a different approach here ThatWeirdGuy. People comment on his threads and tell him he isn't gonna die but he keeps posting threads about the same thing so clearly their methods aren't working. I'm trying to use a little reverse psychology, thats all.

This is an ocd thought and therefore is not worth my time to consider.

A tip to those of you replying to this post. If Freakingout does have Ocd and you tell him "there's nothing to worry about" your infact giving his negative thoughts credibility which they DON'T deserve. The fact you considered them and then told him he had nothing to worry about gives him the impression he was lucky or maybe there was some logic to this thread. Best to tell him the truth, there is nothing here worth thinking about.

My sister suffers from, is nearly cured from ocd.

Reverse phsychology will make him feel even more pannicked. The best thing you can tell him is that His thoughts are not worth considering.

I have another fear like this...

Okay, so I was trying to take flash drive out of pokect, but it got stuck on my key chain. So a little piece of my cross key chain was sticking out. As I was doing that some guy was saying hi to me. What if he saw it and he wants to hurt me now? But then again if he was gonna hurt would he have done during the break in the class, we were both in the hall walking by eachother. Also there's another preson in the class that's apprently admitted to being a Christian before. If someone was gonna attack someone for being a Christian. They would have already gotten her right?

Obsessive thoughts can be scary, but just because you have a thought doesn't mean that anything will come of it. Noone is wanting to hurt you.

Are you on medication for your OCD?

The fear is not standard for OCD.

Are you on an SSRI? Perhaps your medication isn't working because you've been misdiagnosed?

The whole thing revolved around being Christian. FreakingOut, where is the confidence in your faith? The first flash of a cross is supposed to freak out evil, not have them attack you. You ought to try putting the cross on a neckchain and wearing it around your neck - this is something I would like to get. Then, when the thought comes up, just touch from over top of your clothing and say a quick prayer of protection.

Nobody is going to get you for that cross stuff - someone may even ask you about it wanting to know who Jesus is.

You do know that he died on the cross so that we would not be bound by fear.
