Post Understanding the experience of social anxiety

Hi,

My name is James Williams. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Psychology at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. I am interested in some of the personality processes involved in social phobia and social anxiety. The study's findings are expected to have implications for improving the ways in which we can help people to overcome their anxiety.

I am just wondering if anyone was interested in participating in this study. I am looking for people who suffer from social anxiety and also those who do not. The study is entirely web based and can be found at http://opinio.online.swin.edu.au/s?s=5214

If anyone has any questions about the study, please feel free to contact me -
JWilliams@swin.edu.au

Your participation in this project would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

James Williams

Hello,

When I hold down the CTRL button to select more than one option in some of your lists, it still only lets me select one at a time.

Hi Red Sun & Micliph.

Thank you for your interest in the study and thank you for letting me know about the problem with the multiple selections. I have fixed the questions and they now allow multiple selections.

All the best

James

I'm on the third page of your survey, and i've answered all the questions, but everytime I click next, it says in red at the top "Please answer each of the questions", but I already have done...

Hi Fairyxo,

Thanks for letting me know. I think there was a problem with the way the program was reading the questions but I have fixed it now

Thank you for your interest in the study.

Cheers,

James

Smiles,
Thanks for completing my study! It is very much appreciated

I am glad that you found it interesting

It would be difficult to give you individual results of the questionnaire because they are all anonymous. I would like to be able to give you some results but our ethics committee would only pass the study if the questionnaire was anonymous. Sorry

All the best

James

(I just previewed my post and looked at some of my previous posts, and I think I have a tendency to overuse 's lol

Thank you very much!

Glad to hear it worked with a Mac also! I hadn't been able to test it on a Mac yet.

Cheers,

James

I'm working on your Survey now but am having difficulty with certain parts, especially question 21.

You ask questions like, "Do you feel Inferior or Superior" with response having to be either or. The majority of my anxiety comes with the conflation of feelings like those. I'll switch from feeling 'Superior' or Capable to feeling 'Inferior' or Not As-Capable.

Being put in an either or situation I would put Superior because I view myself as Capable or "as good as some, better than some, worse than some". But my choice to use 'Superior' simply stems from my belief in equality, I would never say someone is Inferior... This is my difficulty with this section, I do not mean to indicate that I am a Superior person or feel Superior to others.

I just completed the survey on the Mac and I had no problems.
I really enjoy filling out surveys. This one seemed to be very in depth.
Thank you for the opportunity.

Angry Study

Yes, this sounds great and will be doing the study when I have more time... hope you find something that can help since this dysfunction is isolating me and I am so frustrated since I know I isolate myself, ahhhhh!!!!

I can't even date anymore without falling apart and I know I have a lot going for me as I am not ugly and I am also successful. But I scare people off with my nervous antics!!! I hate myself sometimes.
