Social Anxiety Support

Hello, im new here, my name is javier and im 21 years old. Due to experiences in middle school and high school I think i develop STRONG social anxiety, I used to fell bad about myself and the way Ilooked, as a result I started isolating from people, and in lunchtime I used to hide in the restrooms so people woudnt see me all alone. Well now some time has passed, I lost a lot of weight and Im confident in the way I look and about myself, and I dont care what people think, all the things opposite to when I was in middle school and high school. I have been reading books and other programs that social anxiety arrives from fear of disaproval, and lack of confidence and self steem, but it has been 2 years that all these things dont apply to me anymore. I just think that living these way for so many years(all middle school and high school years) it has become a daily pattern that I cant get out of.. I dont have low self steem, dont have fear of disaproval, and im confident about myself, so why do i still have a STRONG social anxiety that wont let me be happy and live my life like I want too... Medications are the only option?

I think you just lack the experience. You can still feel anxious in social situations if you're not used to it.

Yeah dude, I mean age is just a number, and I havent experienced a lot of things a 21 year old guy should of have, Its like im on a 15 year old level. So you suggest exposure?

Javier,

SA doesn't just come from fear of disapproval/rejection. As thing said, sometimes it's just the fear of the unknown. Unfortunately, in order to overcome that fear is just to make those situations known.
