Social Anxiety Support

Hey Everyone!,

I'm so glad I found this website, it's such a relief to know that I'm not the only one who feels like this. I'm an 18 year old college freshmen. So far I've made some new friends, but as usual I lose touch with them because I don't go out and party every weekend or chase after my school's football players. I'm not a very trusting person; which probably stems from my parents divorce. But over the years I've been let down by a lot of people, making me want to just keep to myself to prevent it from happening again. Whenever I'm out in public I always have my iPod in my ears or stare at my phone (even if no one is texting me).
I find it really difficult at times to express my ideas, especially in class. Usually I feel as if whatever I have to say is stupid or won't be taken seriously. Oddly enough, what I was going to end up saying is the exact thing someone else says. In the rare event that I do speak up, I feel my heart beating into my chest, my voice is shaky, I try not to look in the other person's eyes and feel as if I could crap myself right after. Otherwise, I just skip the lecture/discussion all together.
The reason I joined this forum is to find support for what I'm going through. I've found it really difficult to reach out to someone else about this and I'm hoping that this will help.

Hi clex! i am just like you. I always have my ipod on and looking at my phone. I get really nervous when i have any sort of attention. I'm interested in talking to you some more
