Hey My names Greg and I am 18 years old attending my frist year of college. I have been at college for about a month and a half and have verry few friends. I go to all my classes and then go back to my dorm room for the rest of the day and I am begining to feel really loanely. When I am in class I have no trouble socializing with some people but once class ends everyone goes there own way and I am once again left alone. My roomate is also a loner but seems by choice always blowing me off when I ask him to hangout.
I've never had a girlfriend but use to have a couple good friends throughout highschool whom I could hang out with everyday. All I wan't to is to make a couple good friends but don't know how to and I am verry shy and affraid to start converstations. I have no trouble speaking to people aslong as they talk to me first. I hate staying in my room all the time but don't know what else to do. I wonder everyday if there is something wrong with me. Can anyone help me?

Will I ever make Friends??? Will I ever get a Girlfriends??? PLZ Help Me

From what I've learned, I've come to realize that being the first one to say "Hi" is the first step, and as petty as it sounds, it's a HUGE confidence boost when you actually give it a go.

It all starts with eye contact. If you pass someone, make eye contact with them. If they don't return the eye contact, blow 'em off. If they do return eye contact, casually say "Whats goin on?" or "Hows it going".

I know, it seems scary but once you try it you will feel great and start to realize how irrational your thinking patterns really are. This is what overcoming SA is all about. I remember the first time I tried it, the other person said Hi back and I was like HOLY CRAP, IT WORKED!

Developing social confidence is the goal. Confidence cannot be turned on like a light switch. Confidence will only come with success. This simple greet challenge is easy success, believe me.

I'm just like you BTW. I'm reading, learning, and pushing myself to do things I'd never do though. I made a personal goal at work the other day to greet 5 different people before they greeted me. It felt great. Try to do the same. I wish you luck.
