Social Anxiety Support

Hi everyone,

I'm glad I found this place. I'm a lawyer, of all things, who has suffered from Social Anxiety pretty much my whole life. I really didn't know what I had until the past few years when I started seeking help because it was affecting my job performance. Obviously, being a trial lawyer is probably the worst profession for someone with this sort of problem! I'm just now making a serious effort at treatment, and hoping things will start to look up from here. Thanks for having me!

Welcome Teo, I'm usually asleep by now but I just ate a Triple Threat Power and HERE I AM. I know you can learn and recalm yourself. Sometimes when we're forced to be "visible" all the time (like in a trial?) that can get on your nerves. Plus we can now have a free legal forum, Yaaaaaaay! lol.

Thanks everyone. It's downright HARD sometimes in my profession with this disease. I know for a fact it's cost me potential clients when I don't present well when I first meet them sometimes. And going to hearings and trials...it just ruins me. I get done and I'm so stressed out that I feel totally exhausted. I've been using beta blockers and just started on Lexapro, and trying some other relaxation techniques like biofeedback and guided imagery. Hopefully something will work!

Wow, you're a lawyer? That's interesting. I was called to jury duty again. In May, it was Federal court. Next Monday, it's the county.

. I can't get out of it either. Some lawyers are too extorverted. I would probably pick you over one of them anytime.

Welcome Teo, Social Anxiety plays no favorites and cares not what profession your in. It’s like the person who has many people around them or is married but still is lonely. I work in municipal government and am bombarded with people all day long, there’s no getting away from them. Actually as part of my job I seek them out. For me when the focus is on my expertise and is kept professional I seem to thrive and am considered very good at what I do. The problem is that we can’t stay within that comfort zone 100% of the time. I like to cook and if I had to guess the recipe for life it might be ¼ cup Professional and ¾ cup Social. UUG! I think it can use some more salt and maybe a jalapeno.
