I'm reposting this topic on our forum, because it got me thinking about a male friend of mine who is almost 22, that to this day still calls his father daddy. I call my father dad most of the time. Sometimes, I even call him by his first name. A probably said daddy when I was younger, but the thought of me saying it now feels really awkward to me. Is saying daddy more common than I think?

So my theory is that most of us here are born and raised midwesterners, and there won't be many "Daddy" respondents. And if there are any, they likely aren't born and raised in the midwest. Of course, there may be some exceptions....

I don't call him anything. Saying "dad" is just too painful for me. Plus it makes me feel weird for some reason.

I call him dead.

While alive I called him by his first name, just as I call my mother by her first name.

Why would I call my parents by title? It's not like they called me "Son #3."

Kind of a long name for him.
