Default Southern/Redneck slang

http://grammar.yourdictionary.com/sl...ang-words.html

So I came across this list of Southern/Slang words... for those of you who are not from the South or rural areas in other parts of the country, have you heard or do you say any of these? To me (grew up in South Carolina) many of these seem very southern, but some I never thought of as being southern. The ones that surprised me are:

(gosh) dang/darn/dern - a cleaner version of a well-known, blasphemous expletive
(to) need something like one needs a hole in the head - obviously you do not need a hole in your head; it's even bad for you. Thus anything you definitely don't need, and that might be detrimental to you in some way is described by this phrase.
poop or get off the pot (I've always heard it as s*** or get off the pot) - make a decision and take action
rubber-neck - to drive slowly so as to get a good look at a wreck or disabled vehicle on the side of the road. Those who rubber-neck are rubber-neckers.
sugar - affection, as in, "Come here and give me some sugar." (In the context I've always heard it means a kiss.)
sweet talk - to speak nicely, usually in order to get something you want
(to) think one's s*** don't stink - to think too highly of oneself
uppity - snobby

I would say most of those are universal but some are used more by people age 50+.

They forgot "fixin to" and "finna". Also, "shut the front door".

Never heard any of those. I'm from Michigan and our slang is mostly non-existent words such as secretariahstate, lookit, and didjaeat.

The only one I never heard is rubber neck; we have the same thing, but I don't know if there's a word for it. I've only heard "poop of get off the pot" and "give me some sugar" on TV though.

I guess south England isn't too different

I use "uppity" every now and then, and "y'all," of course, but none of those other words.

I have never heard an actual Southerner talk that way. It reminds me of what redneck stock characters say, but not actual people from the South.

Every time I see Good Will Hunting I'm reminded of the line How Do you like Dem Apples. I remember someone saying How about them apples.

I'm talking about when someone tells a person a juicy bit of info/gossip and then the person says "shut the front door" in response. It's the equivalent of saying get outta here. You're taking it in the literal sense lol.
