This sounds interesting, but i know that my mum/dad/sister won't give in asking who it was from, which then means i'd have to explain everything LOL

I'll think about it some more

Just say its from a social networking site or something. Don't have to be specific. This will be fun, don't miss out

Or even say it's from a friend, something you ordered from the internet or bought off eBay?

Default Yay!

I just read the new rules....i dont have a Christmas tree either, but besides that i'm not a big ornament fan. The reason i like this tradition is because i can get creative and part of the fun is the hunt to find out what the person likes, through posts or webpages etc and recieving something un expected from them as well. Ornaments really takes the surprise element out of the fun for me on both ends. I'll have to think about it...

I agree with altrd, ornaments are not really my thing either. As said, the fun is figuring out what that person may want. The person I sent to last year was v happy with the CD etc. Cost shouldn't be an issue, ppl can be imaginative. Personally, i intend to do the same as last year.

I completely agree! This is why I haven't signed up yet. I was really excited to participate in Secret Santa this year. I really like the surprise element, but knowing I would have to buy and would be getting an ornament sort of takes the fun out of it for me. It is a nice idea and would make things simpler, but it just doesn't have that appeal for me.

I hope that everyone who is participating has fun though.

Ok, I'm confused. David1976, please explain exactly what is meant by "ornament." To me, the word means any pretty thing, the only real purpose of which is to look pretty. Examples: a china figure, a painted pebble, a model boat. However, from the reponses in the thread, it seems to mean something you hang on a christmas tree?

I did some things different this year to ease the worries that people had from last year's exchange. You can still be as creative as you like.
An ornament for this purpose is something that goes on a Christmas tree... but it can be anything that you want it to be....

David, I don't want you take any offense. The idea is good for those that like decorations for their tree, mantle etc. But I think that it takes the fun and adventure out of things. We are not simple people here, (god knows that lol) so why have a simplistic tradition? i don't think we should corner ourselves into one idea for the sake of making it easier. There are plenty of lightweight things that can be made or bought that won't be costly to send. Mix CD's, DVD's, A book, journal, cards, candy, figurine... I know you are giving us the option to send other things along with an ornament, but like the above poster said, I don't want to go through all that work just to receive an ornament i won't use. Also, the idea of secret santa is not knowing what you are going to get. Not even a clue.

Just out of curiosity, what were the gripes about last year? Maybe i and others can contribute some more ideas to appease?

I appreciate the concerns. I would like to stick with the theme for this year. I mentioned some barriers in my previous posts in this thread. As of now I am also seeing more participation this year from last year. If I decided to do this again next year I will take all of this year's concerns and try to incorporate them at that time.

I plan on being creative in my ornament this year. I plan on researching my person and finding something appopriate to that person. I will encourage everyone to do the same as well. They can also count on something extra and you can do the same but it is not required...

Hmm, I really want to do this, but I'm not so sure about giving out my adress. Not to mention I live at home and no one even knows I'm using this site. Mysterious ornaments appearing on my doorstep..

I think that I will participate this year as well, but I have to agree that narrowing it down to ornaments can be a little bit boring for the people who are a bit more creative and that like to finding gifts
But I guess I can find some ornament and maybe something else so that it will be a surprise there too!

I have been participating for some years now,and it has been real fun so I'm in
