Smile Secret Santa 2009!

DEADLINE
Friday, November 27th!

Hello Everyone!
It is once again time for the 5th annual SAS Secret Santa! The exchange has changed to hopefully make it easier for everyone. This year we will have a theme: Ornaments! I felt that one of the barriers to the past exchanges to some was cost. Ornaments can be inexpensive or handmade and cheap to ship. Please feel free to ask any questions.

The Rules
  • Everyone will get a random person that they will be sending an ornament. Please do not ask for another person. Once names are distributed it will be almost impossible to change anything.
  • Please be aware of the deadline (12/25/2009) and the location of the person. The further away the person is the sooner you need to send the ornament. I would like everyone to receive an ornament by the deadline. You may receive someone from outside of your country. The closer to the deadline the faster shipping method you may need to use.
  • There is no limit on the cost of the ornament. You may purchase or make the ornament. The choice is completely your decision.
  • Please get delivery conformation if it is possible. While this is optional things can get lost in the mail during the holidays. I would also like this as proof of delivery.
  • Please refrain from discussing who you received until they receive the ornament. The surprise is half the fun.
  • Most importantly. For any reasons that you feel that you may not be able to participate DO NOT submit your name. If after you do receive a name and for some extraordinary reason that you can’t send a gift. PLEASE let me know so that I can line up someone else so that person does not go without a gift.
  • Lastly please include your username with the ornament. This way the person can know whom it is from, and they can send you a nice thank you note.
Participation
To participate, please send me a Private Message with the subject "Secret Santa" to my mailbox. In the PM, please include your name, SAS username, email address, and mailing address.

Your names and addresses will be kept confidential. Only the person chosen to be your Secret Santa and myself will see them.

You can participate no matter where you are. The only requirement is that you have a mailing address.

DEADLINE

Friday, November 27th!
Shortly after that date I will randomly assign everyone a person to buy for, and will contact you via email or private message. Further information will be sent at that time, so please read all of the email.

It has to be an ornament?

This sounds interesting. I'll have to think about entering.

I don't know, though, we don't do the Christmas tree thing (or any Christmas thing) at our house...

If you would like to send something else along with the ornament that is perfectly fine.. but it is not required...
Ornaments can be hung from anyplace that you like... you don't need a tree for ornaments.. one year besides the tree I placed garland around a doorway and put ornaments on that... or just hang it from a doorknob or bedpost...
Already have one person... don't be "shy"... sign up today

I was so excited when I saw this thread! I only joined less than a year ago, and I missed it last year. This is a little different from what I was expecting, but it's an interesting twist. I can understand how it could make things easier...

I will probably participate I personally don't really care for super Christmasy ornaments, but it could be fun, and there are a lot of non-traditional unique ornaments out there.

Actually I made a litle package of coal one year and found a cute phrase online to add to it... would be easy to make an ornament out of that..

This is a good idea but I don't really like the idea of anyone knowing my address

I understand.... that is another issue for some people... but that is a requirement... just remember that only two people will know your address.. myself and your secret santa...

Just wondering...we would be assigned to someone outside of our country right? On what basis would you assign? Last year, how many people signed up?

Also, how much would it cost to send roughly? Like the delivery costs?

Wouldn't it be 3 people who will know your address? You, the person you are sending it to (unless you don't have to write a return address) and the person who will be sending it to you.

Last year we had roughly 14 people.. don't have the exact info in front of me.
The choice would be random. So you would not necessarily be assigned someone outside your country.

Cost varies.. but it mostly will depend on weight... and if you are sending something domestically or internationally.. but since this is an ornament the weight and cost should be low.. the best thing to do is check your country's postal web site.. they should have a calculator to give you an idea of the cost.. if you send it early enough you can just send it standard shipping... that would give you the lowest cost...

If you put your return address.. 3 people will know your address.. but if you are not required to put a return address.. 2 people will know your address.. this will be your choice..
