Default has the ATM ever eaten your money?

my dad hates ATMs so he asks me to withdraw money from his unemployement card. i left at 6am to work this morning, earlier than usual, so i decided to get the $300 out. i checked to see the balance and it was at $302.00. it was taking longer than usual for the ATM to process the withdrawl so i cancelled it and decided to go to the ATM near my work. but i put the card back in to check the balance and it was $2.00 only. i had no cash and no receipt on me

has anyone had a similar experience? i know my next step is to call the bank but they wont open for another 2.5 hours and was just curious if any has had problems getting their money back?

Ah I didn't answer before because I didn't have any useful advice. So what happened with this?

The only time it has happened to me was at an ATM right outside a bank, and luckily it was open at the time. I just went in and explained what happened to someone, he told me the money hadn't been removed from my account and to try again at a different ATM, and that was it!

If they give you difficulty, you can always ask them to check the amount of cash actually in the ATM vs. the amount of cash the ATM says it's supposed to have. If it's off by your amount of money, then you've proven your point. (Of course, if it's off by *more* you can still say that the ATM is broken and doing it to a lot of people...)

They might not want to do this though. ATMs usually have a lot of money in them. The ones at my bank were filled once a week with $100,000 in tens and twenties. It might take a while to count.

Have a nice day,
Kelly

Something like that once happened to me. The money had been taken off the balance too but popped up back within an hour.

Yes, panicked has a k in it
