I think this article raises a few good points: Gamer girls aren’t special anymore http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/main/blog.php?b=205 Gender exploitation is a good point, gaming publishers have a long tradition of exploiting female gamers to cater to young hormonal males/get free advertising which just perpetuates the stereotyping and mysticism of the female gamer. Fragdolls irritate me to no end, they are sponsored by Ubisoft Games to 'promote and raise awareness of female gamers' which seems like a loosly veiled excuse to exploit attractive women and the whole idea of female gamers. As mentioned in the articles below the name 'Frag Doll' implies as much about their intended purpose... Case in point of gender exploitation in gaming: Frag Doll on Frag Dolls http://www.escapistmagazine.com/arti...-on-Frag-Dolls Frag Dolls: Friend or Foe? http://nocookiesforme.blogspot.com/2...nd-or-foe.html I think the actual label 'girl gamer' reinforces or at least demonstrates the discourse that females are somehow seperate from mainstream (male) gamers. |

Girls will be shown playing all the same games guys play one day, hopefully. Oh, you have to post a picture of your table/dresser. I want to see. Please! I feel that way, too, whenever I walk into a gaming store or a gaming section. It's always full of guys. Every now and then an occasional girl with her boyfriend/husband/friend/brother, looking bored or buying one of the Jonas Brother games. I always feel weird. This is why I order most games online. I'm so bad for doing that, but as long as I get the game I want, I don't care. I definitely agree with this. That label doesn't help at all.

"Talking to one[a girl] on a forum is an effort in patience, as you'll be forced to wade through the dozens of hormone driven posts from fourteen year-old boys who act as if they've spotted Bigfoot."
I LOLed....but it is so true I remeber one time I was playing on WoW and this guy found out I was a girl and started spouting out ignorant s**t like "I want your ovaries!" Honestly! And another guy said I was probably extremely ugly cus "pretty girls don't play video games".....reallllly pissed me off.I can't upload pics on here except for on my avatar and profile pic cus I'm on mobile and something about my browser not handling VBulletin well/correctly :/ I have it up on my myspace though which is in my signature I also can't post group discussions cus it like doubly tripply posts the topic over and over....that really sucks considering I made the Christian group and can't even start a discussion on it, only able to talk on other's discussions. I don't have PC interent...another limitation of lack of funding/job

Then some guys on my team wanted to add me as a friend. Then however whenever I would play on a team with them they would reveal to the other team that I was a girl and obliterated a whole team. It was like I was some sort of sideshow freak. |

then you DESTROY them!!! I don't get why it's thought that skill has anything to do with gender I liked how it was pointed out in the article rumjungle put up that quite a few girls are actually better at their favorite games than guys. The only time I got a dude to play for me was Fatal Frame and that was cus it was scary as hell(idk if you guys have played it, but the part where you open the door to that tape casette room and a ghost pops up in your face.....Uh uh ) And I still told him what to do, he still didn't beat him It's kinda funny since I can play all the Silent Hills all the way through(another game I had to help a certain guy with )I have had to help my brother and father on games before and I know more about fixing things like TVs and consoles than they do....it's pretty funny

I got hooked on RP MUDs and MUSHs back in junior high after I found out about them in a chatroom. I don't play them anymore, but I have fond memories. I really did think I was the only girl who played them!

Hah! I do. Can't remember how you actually "played" or what the point was though.

My sister got my nephew a Nintendo with some games about two years ago and she wouldn't let him play Street Fighter so I kind of took it over. I'd push him off the game and tell him he wasn't old enough to play, but he could watch (I was such a horrible caregiver). He used to get so upset and say, 'Girls aren't even supposed to like this type of stuff.' And he was only 6 at the time. When and where do boys learn that girls aren't supposed to play/like video games?!

Not to barge in on your thread ladies but yes Chrono Trigger is as good as people say it is. As far as the perception goes that Nintendo= kids games while not entirely true they have somewhat earned that perception. I get why they keep making Mario, Metroid and Zelda (they sell a lot) but it would be nice if they could come up with some new IPs or dust off some older series back from the NES days and revamp them for today a good example is Punch-Out. |

Why do people always point out completely irrelevant things like cateogories on this site...I swear, every thread I read/make/comment on seems to have some person pointing out some thing that doesn't even matter at all
Makes me kinda want to leave this site I'm also a bit annoyed and depressed right now so sorry for the break in conversation ![]() Thanks for joining the group ![]() And it's not like a girl's only thread , guys are welcomed to, it's just about discussing girls in the gaming world. Have you played Chrono Cross too? I love that game but I never got to play Trigger.....which is better? Also, I have no idea what MUDs or MUSHes are either so don't feel too bad about it

I have been into gaming since I could remember. I spent a large part of my childhood fighting with my younger brother over the Nintendo controller.
My favorite games today include Fire Emblem, The Godfather, Silent Hill, Legend of Zelda. I like RPG's. This game, Penumbra Black Plauge, has caught my interest lately. Its a PC game and scarier than Silent Hill IMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhdD0lYBh0Q

MUD (multi-user dungeon). They're basically text-based online games played over telnet or other specialized clients, and were popular in the 90's. They are considered by many to be the precursors to modern graphical mmorpgs.
