Thumbs up Girls who game :D

Someone suggested this thread on another of my threads so I'm making it....Questions are, how many girls game on this site(vidoe games)? Are you a casual gamer or more regular? What kind of games do you enjoy(titles, style etc)? Which console type do you prefer? And anything else you'd like to discuss about gaming as a female

Awesome thread idea. I love gaming and have been gaming pretty much since I could hold a controller. I would consider myself to be a regular gamer rather than a casual one.
I love a variety of games but especially first person shooters and role playing games. I like Gears of War, Call of Duty 4 and more. I do have a soft spot for platformers though. I loved Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. They are two of my all time favorite games.
Right now my favorite console is Xbox 360.

I casually game. My favorite console is PS2 and pretty much anything Nintendo - however I have no experience with Wii or Gamecube.

My favorite genres are RPG, action (but not first person shooter), puzzle, and simulation. I like what I've played of the FF series (7, 8, and 9), what I've played of Silent Hill (1) and Resident Evil (1, 2, 3). I love Breath of Fire III. And I love the Harvest Moon games and Zelda games, with some exceptions.

I used to game a lot more when I was younger. After seeing several people claim that video games saved them through tough times, it made me realize that they helped me get through a lot of bull crap, too.

Hmm....I love gaming...The only reason I don't do it more often is the lack of money to afford the console and games. Some of my favorite games are: Final Fantasy(VII-X), Xenosaga series, Devil May Cry(1 and 3), Castlevania(SOTN is the best!!), Onimusha series, Summoner 2, God of War series, Jak and Daxter series, Silent Hill series(my favorite horror, mainly the first, but I love them all), Chrono Cross(AWESOME), Legend of the Dragoon, Tomb Raider, Abe series, Tekken series...etc...
Favorite genre is RPGs for sure
My favorite console is the playstation, wish I could afford a ps3 my ps2 broke....
I've also enjoyed this PC vampire game I played once, some of the Zeldas, WoW, Mario, Sonic, Yoshi's Island, Pac Man, etc...
Games also help(ed) me get thru hard times. I love the "escape" they offer and I am most into deep stories.

I have a PS3 that I use fairly often. I play things like Final Fantasy, Uncharted, Devil May Cry, Resistance, Little Big Planet, Grand Theft Auto IV, Rock Band, DJ Hero (just got that this week)...I am really looking foward to playing God of War 3
Growing up I played a lot of Mario Kart and Sonic, I would love to get a Wii for Mario Kart.
My favoirte game console would probably be the computer but it's never really been up to date enough to buy games for it. I did have Doom several years ago on my computer, on Windows '95 I think...I loved that game so much. I did have Sims 2 for awhile, but my computer can't handle it anymore....

I hear that in God of War 3 there's this part where you're fighting one of the gods(probably Zeus)in this building and one of the Titans is outside shaking the building around during the battle.....that sounds frickin' awesome!!!! I loved the part on 2 where you swing across the falling pillars, got me so pumped everytime. I also had to help my brother get past many parts on those 2 cus he couldn't do it...so funny xD Those games are so epic! Love it

I sort of already answered this question in another thread about the games that I play.

I've been playing video games since I was about 5 years old (Sega).

I'm pretty fussy with games though and don't purchase them that frequently, I tend to steer clear of games that are basically cash cows (ie. film-> game like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings) and poorly made. Someone mentioned Assassin's Creed...I played that and found it to be pretty mediocre, the interface and controls were awkward and the gameplay was repetitive. It did have potential but it was an impulse purchase for me.

As a gamer I'm concerned by the lack of attention developers pay to hardcore gamers in favour of the casual gamer, so console over pc games. This will lead to lower quality games imo. Also the stereotyping of female gamers, part of the misogynism in gaming stems from gaming publishers and developers because they still treat female gamers (especially FPS players) like some sort of mystical creature. I was gonna go into a huge rant about that but I'll restrain myself.

Experiences as a female gamer...

Overall I've had it pretty good, the clan I've been in for the last year mainly has older players who are married/mature so I don't get heckled by them. I joke around etc but I'm treated with respect.

In August we had a new female join the clan and she was very sexual and forward with the guys and they got sick of it pretty quickly and if she hadn't gone off to start her own clan she probably would've been kfc'd.

In pub servers it is much easier to just blend in with the natural fauna...if people know you're a chick they'll either go out of their way to knife and tbag you or they'll join your squad and attempt to sweet talk you and treat you 'delicately'.

BOY: "You're a girl I can't kill you"
ME: "Really? Well other people don't seem to take issue with it and if you don't kill me I'll kill you anyway"

I'm waiting for the next FPS to knock me off my socks and have a large player base.

rumjungle, Iced Soul, xxArmyofOnexx, and a few others including myself brought out the idea of this thread in my other thread....I think it's back on topic now ....maybe :/

What misconceptions do you girls think there are about girl gamers as well? I've noticed some people(guys) seem to think girl gamers are almost a fairy tale :/

What do you males think?

So far nobody's voted "Eww...wouldn't be caught dead playing" which could be cus those girls aren't interested in this thread or because the majority of girls are in fact interested gamers, or not enough have seen the thread yet....

Yay, girls who play video games! I knew I wasn't the only one! It's so depressing that there is no one to ramble about video games with that isn't a guy. Either that or they are Playstation/Xbox fanboys and trash Nintendo, NO ONE MESSES WITH NINTENDO! Not that liking those consoles is bad, it's just annoying when that's all they talk about. Anyhoo, I love RPGs! My first game was Pokemon Blue that I got around preschool/kindergarten and I was also able to beat it. I still like Pokemon now (is that embarrasing?) and anything Nintendo or RPG related. Speaking of which, is Chrono Trigger as good as they say it is since I was thinking of getting it?

I play games. I have phases where I play a lot and phases where I hardly play at all. I like many sorts of games, from card games on my computer to PS2 survival horror, online MUDding to console rpgs. I'm not really into sports games or FPS. Other than mudding, I don't really play games online with other people.

I would like to own a ps3 someday, but it's not at the top of my list, I still have a lot of ps2 games to play.

Since I don't generally play over networks, my being a girl doesn't really matter in gaming. I do get rather annoyed though in MUDs when people don't believe I'm female. It ranges from jokes like "there are no real females in muds" to this one guy telling me it wouldn't bother him if I was really a male, since he has crossdressing friends.

Even with that, I like to play as female characters the most. I do enjoy the extra help I receive.

The term girl gamer is being taken so lightly nowadays that guys don't take us seriously. Most girls consider them avid gamers even if they play crappy third party games with typical girly cliches like fashion or horseback riding. Most girls I see looking at the video game section with me are little girls with pink DS's and a Hannah Montana game. Because gaming has become so user friendly especially with the Wii and DS, girl gamers are more than often labeled as nonserious. It's especially hard for us hardcore Nintendo fans. To most guys I know, Nintendo=lame, kids games and Sony/Microsoft=awesome graphics and hardcore games. And have you ever seen ads in the newspapers? The boys are always seen playing Mario or Sonic and the girls are left with a Jonas Brothers game. Perhaps gaming has also become a bit sexist?

You made the thread!

You put Mario. I miss playing Super Mario Brothers. That, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Zelda used to be the only games I played and I played them all the time. I have yet to get a new Zelda game, though. I have this weird fear that it won't be as good as it used to be.

You took my thoughts.

Also, I notice those ads, too. Why are the girls always stuck playing 'take care of a pet' or 'Hannah Montana tour' or 'Jonas Brothers' games?
I thought it always was kind of sexist. At least they show girls playing the games in advertisements, now. It used to be boys playing the video games, girls playing with dolls.

I did!!! It was a good idea....now I'm thinking somebody should make a group

Yessss, one day, I too hope we girls will be shown playing awesome games in advertizing ......pretty much about 95% of th artwork I do are from video games. My favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy VIII....I have drawn so much stuff from that and even made a table/dresser with FF art all painted over it
I always feel like guys are looking at me funny when I go look in the gaming section. Hmm, the only shooting game I can remember enjoying was Goldeneye(that was hella fun). I remember playing that at a daycare place with a bunch of dudes when I was a kid and we'd form teams then they'd betray you so you'd get the grenade launcher and go to town on their candy a**es Gooooooood times
Don't really care for Halo though
