Default Fear of Geting Old?

Well I just turned nineteen two months ago, and I'm already starting to feel like I'm getting old! I just keep thinking in a few years from now, all the teenagers are going to start calling me "sir" and I wont be hip, and plus I'll start getting wrinkles. I hope I never live to 80 cause then I gotta wear a diaper again too

Anyone here agree?

I wouldn't worry about it. You probably still look like you're 17. You most likely won't start getting noticeable wrinkles until your thirties so you have plenty of time left. You can also be hip at any age. You care about teenagers opinions now, but in a couple years teens will be a thing of the past. You should look forward to hanging out with twenty somethings now.

Get wrinkles at 21? Really?

I thought from the title you meant fear of getting old not that you are already old. If one's age ends in "teen" one is not old.

Of course, I am some old, demented, nonhip lady wearing diapers so what the hell do I know????? Hand me my cane, sonny!!!

i think it's kind of comforting to know that all the people i know are also getting older with me though. that makes me feel a little better =]

I can't believe I'm actually saying this * phew - where does the time go* but however "old" you may feel at whatever age, a decade from now you will look back on your younger self with great fondness and perhaps even a trace of envy. Reason enough I would contend for most to treasure at least some aspects what they are in the here and now.

Teenagers nowadays don't show respect to their elders. Darn whippersnappers.

I don't fear the effects of aging on my body, but the fact that society expects you to "settle down" after a certain age. I won't be ready to settle down any time soon. Hell, I've never really stirred things up in the first place.

This is very depressing for me. I'll be 22 in about a month. I feel like life is already over. Why can't we just stop the clock...This sucks

It's not the fear of getting old...it's the fear of having to set out your life very early on in life and the constant fork roads you have to take in life. If you take a wrong turning, you fail.

In about half a year's time, I will have to take some exams for college. In another 9 months or so after that, I will have to take another set of exams. And then after that, I have to apply to university and then do a degree then get a job. At any one of those points I fail, well, I'm pretty much screwed for life.

And what's more, I feel as if my childhood is quickly vanishing and I've done hardly/achieved hardly anything in it. I've never won anything worth mentioning, never done anything, etc etc.

I was visiting my grandmother in hospital a couple of days ago and seeing how frail and slow she has become (plus her dimention) really scared me because I can still remember her being relatively able bodied from like fifteen years ago. All I could think about was how much I didn't want to be like that and that I hope I die before I get that old.

Not really. Being a teenager was all-around awful, and I'll have to wait for dementia to set in before forgetting that.

I do fear looking old. Some days I look in the mirror and see an old person, some days I see a kid. It's weird being two people.

Sometimes, time seems to flow by too fast. Just this year, i feel like 2009 went by so fast, already November

If you spend your time worrying about getting old, you'll miss out on enjoying your youth.

I can very much relate to the feeling. I'm Turning 18 later this month, and it feels like I'm getting older. I like being young but now I see kids that are like 16 and I just feel like I'm getting old. It wont be long before I'm no longer 'in the know' with modern culture, sense pretty soon I'll be looked at as an adult, which will be weird.

Just imagine how I feel when I welcome kids less than half my age to SAS.

I'm almost 29 and just beginning to feel like my looks are finally catching up to my actual age. For years I looked much younger than I actually was and I hated it. Now I'm desperately trying to hang onto it.

It is a bit strange though because even though I'm getting older, my mindset is still stuck in the teenage years. I refuse to "grow up" I suppose. When I'm 50, I'm going to be "that old guy" at the heavy metal concert! Just because you get older doesn't mean you have to start being lame because that's what society expects of you.
