But I don't think I could ever own like a dog or something like that- I'm just not gonna ****ing pick up it's **** w/my hand on the ground, thats ****ing disgusting, I'm not gonna smell that ****, I'm not gonna look at that ****, they're so dirty, like I was listening to the radio today, and listeners were talking about how they wipe their dog's *** to clean up the excess eww.....They're so dirrty, like every time you touch it pet it etc, you might be exposing yourself to deadly bacteria, you don't know where they've been and I'm not a germaphobe or anything, I'm actually really disorganized, I don't clean up, I'm pretty sure I've exposed myself to salmonella on more than one occasion....... but while I think dogs are so cute, and I love their soft fur, and every time I see one I always wanna go pet it and as recently as a few years ago, i thought I wanted to buy a small dog when i get my own place, today I just know I couldn't deal w/the ****, and their runny wet snout, and they're dirty wet paws, and their wet tails, and their slimy tongues, I just couldn't deal with it I mean the best I think I could do is maybe, maybe owning a kitten cuz at least they have litter boxes, but otherwise, the only pets i ever wanna own are fish, maybe birds So am I the anomaly? evrywhere i look, people seem to have dogs , is everyone selfless enough to take care of dogs except for me? or do some of you know that you would never own a dog or a rabbit, or something like that cuz of having to clean up of all it's grossness, and deal w/it's black light compounds |

I used to love having pets. Ones that are confined to tanks mostly. I've had mice, hamsters, lizards (bearded and water dragons), fish, birds, toads, crayfish, and pretty much every common insect you can think of (ants, mantids, spiders, millipedes, potato bugs..)
But now, I share many of your anti-pet sentiments. I agree that they are full of germs and I want nothing to do with them....And no I will not pet your dog. |

I don't want a pet. Maybe if I was living on my own in a house with a nice garden. People think it's a necessity to have a pet, it's kind of stupid IMO. :/

Obviously, people who have dogs/cats get something out of it or they wouldnt have one. Its okay if you dont see the merit in it, to each his own.

I don't want pets. I can barely afford to feed myself
I know my girlfriend wants some, though, so we might have a few when we live together.

There's a certain level of grossness one has to accept/overlook with any pet - no matter how cute or adorable. I have a small dog and am VERY careful to always wash my hands before eating or preparing any food. I have a relative who thinks nothing of allowing a dog to lick his hands or face - I find that DISGUSTING. I always have to look away but he just shrugs it off as no big deal. How can anyone tolerate that ? I don't care how much you love it,it's still an ANIMAL!!

I sure hope you aren't ever planning on being a mother. Changing poopy diapers is, IMO, much worse than cleaning up after a dog.

You get used to cleaning up after them pretty quickly. After a couple months you might not even bat an eye.
It's just a responsibility you need to take on if you want the benefits of a pet. For some people, the responsibilities outweigh the benefits. As long as you realize it, it's cool.

![]() Obviously, with kids or pets, the pros outweigh the cons. Having a pet is not for everyone though and its better to know that about yourself rather than get a pet and give up on them and leave them in the shelter.

my cat goes to the bathroom in the garden so i don't have to clean anything up. xD
when my sister moves out he's going to sleep in my room with me so i'm going to put kitty litter in there just in case. i have to get used to cleaning it up anyway since i'm going to be a vet nurse. i know what you mean though, it is kind of gross. |

Well for me the benefits outweigh the responsibilities. Pets are messy, but they're great company IMO(especially for someone with sa)
I've owned dogs, fish, hamsters and cats. Cats were probably the easiest to take care of actually. With cats, they're no cages or tanks to clean or paws/behinds to wipe. Cleaning the litter box is kind of gross, but I just hold my breath and put up with it. |

I'm not normally that into furry pets - I have no need to put little pictures of them around my place or desk, nor to give them funny purr-sonalities like "Norman the Siamese likes to read and spend time with friends" etc etc, but, having said that, I may have one visiting me in a week or two.

One reason I like rabbits is that they **** pellets. Sooo much easier to clean. That is if they allow you to clean their cage - temperamental ****ers that they are

If you don't want to deal with a dog, consider getting a cat or two. They practically look after themselves aside from needing their litter boxes cleaned a couple of times a week, having their water changed and being fed. If you get two, they won't demand much attention either because they'll keep each other company.
I'd recommend two, it's actually less work because they won't demand as much attention and get so bored if they're left on their own, thus they'll be less destructive. Of course you'll have to buy twice as much food but it's not that expensive. And they clean themselves! |

I would like one but I doubt my parents would ever allow it. We're hungry enough as it is.
And plus, I'm allergic to everything with fur
