Angry Why is Daughtry always on Vh1 top 20 ?

I never found daughtry's music as anything more than competent at best.

Yet they keep on getting spots (and high spots too) on the Vh1 top 20 while better bands like Matchbox20, U2, Coldplay and Muse, struggle to remain on the list for more than 2 consecutive weeks. ( Despite the fact that Coldplay's last album was a smash success).

I don't get it ? How does Daughtry get to # 1 ? Do they have shares in Vh1 ? Or are we so Western-biased that we will vote a sucky American band over a better sounding English groups just for spite.

Even that song "FIREFLIES" by OwlCity sticks more in my head than any of daughtry's songs.

Cause it's VH1's top 20.

But seriously, I hear ya. That's pretty much the reason why I gave-up on watching VH1's top 20 or even it's "Jump Start" block. Viacom pretty much sucks all around.

The song about hugs from lightning bugs and ten million fireflies? I assumed that was the new Postal Service song. I'm really surprised that it's someone completely different. Weird.

He won American Idol, American Idol aired on Fox, Fox and Viacom (owns VH1) got together and decided to promote the crap out of their contestants, that is why Daughtry and co. get so much play time. Talent doesn't equal popularity, money does.

Daughtry didn't win he came in fourth. Just for accuracy.

I despise when TV or radio try to turn music into a competition.

Who really wants to see the same 20 videos in almost the same order week after week? I know I don't. They don't even play the full video either because the dumb VJ is too busy acting like a moron.

That Fireflies song is about INSOMNIA! Um, hello?! Who here can relate to that?! That's a good song to go to sleep to. I thought it was taken from an animated movie.

I don't watch the Top20 stuff unless it's Billboard related - they have the real top 20 lists and stuff. The rest is opinionated crud.

No, it isn't Ben Gibbard. The lead singer does sound a lot like him though.

I would say because he appeals to a much larger demographic then those bands you listed before. He also has a lot more advertising most likely. But VH1 and MTV are kind of crap for finding music though.

I can't do my vocal impression of popular male bands, but it is pretty much how I sum up a lot of "modern rock" nowadays. Burwahherr. It's a very distinct way of singing. They do extra things to make their voice sound a certain way. The music is always kind of angsty, always focusing on a relationship struggle or something like that. I think some of these dudes have serious problems with women. I guess a lot of bands have these kinds of lyrics, but the frustration and angst isn't so upfront and annoying. They are always clean cut looking dudes with nu-metal or generic rock sounding, overly produced instrumentation behind them. Kind of like this:

http://www.youtube.com/v/<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DWaB4PXCwFU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DWaB4PXCwFU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It's so not metal. What does this song have to offer? "I will try to find my Pl-Uh-Yays"... "Do you like that, do you like that?" Eww.

Look at this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANU7j3OLq6w

Yeah, we're tough working class dudes playing and hanging out on big construction equipment, definitely appealing to our demographic. Not trying to hide anything here.
