This seems a good place to post this: the first 8 minutes of the ABC re-make of the 80s series 'V'- http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/10/23/...tes-of-abcs-v/

Oh I am so gonna watch this series when it comes out! My parents introduced me to the original V-The Final Battle series! I really enjoyed it!

I've been into sci-fi for as long as I can remember, I use to watch Star Trek all the time as a kid and the Planet of the Apes movies.

I really enjoy the Sci Fi genre too. I have also been a fan as long as I can remember. I consider myself a bit of a geek (in a good way, lol) ... Mostly I just watch tv shows and movies, I haven't read too much recently although I would like to get back into it. I like to read Sci Fi books too if anyone has any good recommendations. I prefer more "realistic" Sci Fi, but I can deal with aliens and that kind of thing ... I don't much care for Fantasy.

The best science-fiction books I've ever read were Douglas Adams' 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' series and 'Dirk Gently' series. Bloody fantastic. Also well worth a look are Philip K Dick's books, I also like Michael Moorcock's stuff but they have fantasy overtones much of the time I feel.

Try Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space books, they're good "hard" sci-fi - Revelation Space, Chasm City, Redemption Ark and Absolution Gap are the 4 main linked novels in that universe, plus a few more standalone novels and short story collections.
And if you've never read the Dune series by Frank Herbert, you're missing out there!

If you like Ian M Banks stuff then check out John Scalzi's books, you'll probably like his stuff too First book is Old Man's War, then there's a couple of sequels to read.

Firefly was really awesome, shame it was cancelled I didn't really get it when i first saw it, took a while to get into, but after i did it's become one of my favourite series, even if it is far too short.

Yeah, Douglas Adams is good Philip K Dick too, read a few of his books... most of them are pretty odd though heh.

Heard they're good also, i've actually got Revelation Space but haven't got round to reading it yet.

One book i'd really recommend to sci-fi fans is Dan Simmon's Hyperion books (often sold together as one huge book). It's not exactly light reading in either length or tone - it's definitely not a 'happy' book - but it's really, really, really good. In my opinion at least.

I love sci-fi, TV shows at least. My all time favourites are DS9, B5, NuBSG and Doctor Who (in all of it's incarnations, though I have a strong preference for Pertwee, T. Baker, Davison and Tennant). I'm not really into literature though, my attention span is too short and I distract too easily to get into books.

Yes, that's definitely worth reading! The Endymion books that follow it are pretty good as well.

Phillip K. Dick mostly. I'm rereading a lot of M. John Harrison at the moment, who is great.
JG Ballard is brilliant but I don't think he classed himself as a science fiction writer.

His more recent books Illium and Olympos are also very good, I really enjoyed both of them.

A few more ideas for anyone that's interested:
Stephen Donaldson (The Gap Sequence)
Richard Morgan (Altered Carbon, Broken Angels, Woken Furies)
Iain M Banks (anything )
John Brunner (Stand on Zanzibar, The Sheep Look Up, The Shockwave Rider, The Jagged Orbit)
Charles Stross (The Atrocity Archives, The Jennifer Morgue, Iron Sunrise, Singularity Sky)
E. E. Smith (The Lensman series - about 60 years old but extremely entertaining even now!)

Yay! Some mention of Doctor Who! Ok list there, 'cept you missed out Sylvester McCoy for some reason . Although Davison is very lovely and (Tom) Baker/Tennant are "fantastic".
