I have to say its the best tv show I have ever watched. The sets and costumes are accurate depictions of ancient Rome down to the last detail. The acting is top notch. HBO spent $10 million per episode (the main reason the show was cancelled after 2 seasons). The show starts with the Roman Civil Wars between Julius Caesar and Pompey Magnus. It ends with the defeat of Mark Antony and Cleopatra by Octavian Caesar. I'm just surprised at how few of my friends have seen this show. Edit: Just heard that Starz is starting a new show called Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Soooo f*ing excited!! |

I watched the first season and loved it. I have the second season, just haven't got to it yet..
I would love more big budget historical-based series. I also enjoy historical fiction books. |

I have the first season of Carnivale. It seems like my sort of thing, but the lack of a real ending (from what I hear) puts me off a little, sadly. I agree completely on Mad Men. I love it, though I'm glad I didn't live in that time period! I have the first 2 seasons of The Tudors in my to-watch pile as I don't have any premium channels. I hear it's good, but very soap operaish, is this so? Doesn't bother me any, historical romance is one of the few sorts of romance I don't mind reading. Though, not all of it, a little tired of some time periods. You like historical movies too? I saw The Emperor And The Assassin not too long ago, I found it to be a rather intriguing epic about the man who would end up unifying the kingdoms of China in the 3rd century BC. |

I'm really big into the Greek/Romans movie wise, which fortunately there are a lot of movies on them. Love Gladiator, Ben Hur, 300 is one of my all time faves. I'll have to check out the emperor and the assassin. Did you see the edit I put up about Spartacus? Holy sh*t that looks good. |

I was really fond of the first season and all the drama surrounding Atia, Brutus' mother, Julius and young Octavian. The second season focused way too much on Vorenus basically going bat**** insane.
