Default So I wanna learn about soccer

Any helpful books or websites you can recommend to help me learn?

I watched Italy win the Fifa World cup in 2006 and have been interested in soccer ever since. I think I'm a fan of Italy Any Italians out there?

Also, I am interested in world soccer teams, so I'm curious in what national teams you like and why?

I like the US national team cause I'm from and live in the US. Other national teams I like are Germany cause I'm a fan of Miro Klose and Russia cause of their style of play. If your going to be a fan of of anyone other than the country you live in Italy is a good pick. They win a lot of trophies. A lit bit too defensive for my taste though

The best way to learn about it is to watch it. I think soccer is one of the easiest games to understand. If you want to brush up on the basic rules then I'd suggest you just look it up on Wikipedia or something.

At the moment I really like Argentina. They've got some great players, and when they play well they're brilliant to watch.

I have more of a traditional opinion/attitude when it comes to this. I believe people should support the country in which they were born and/or have close roots to. It bugs me when I see somebody from Canada with roots in (for example) Poland, cheering for Portugal.

I support The Netherlands because my roots are very tight to the country. My dad was born there and I am close with my family over there. I have to hope Canada does well too, seeing as I am a born Canadian, but the national association doesn't care to make much of an effort. It's really too bad.

Aside from those two countries, there are a bunch who are fun to watch. However, I don't plan my day around them when they play like I do for The Netherlands, and I don't care whether or not other national teams win, and I do root against my country's natural rivals and the better teams The Netherlands are in competition against at the time.

You should watch it with someone who is a fan of the sport. They'll probably be excited about explaining everything to you. I never cared for american football until I went to college and started watching it with people who really liked the sport.

Ruck and scrum.....

I played soccer for eight years, but quit my freshman year of high school after I was one of two people cut. I was very small and had just turned 14.

The only complaint I have is that not enough goals are scored. If the made the goals a little bit bigger (taller only), then it would be more interesting.

Goal kick, Corner kick, Penalty Kick, Direct Kick, Indirect Kick, Throw-In, Pass, Center, Shoot......Fullbacks, Halfbacks (I played halfback mostly), Forwards, etc. Interesting game.

The goals are already taller than the goalkeepers. If they were to make the goals taller, that's just rewarding inaccuracy.

You should probably first look at the about.com website about soccer; how to play, how to kick, and so forth. Forget about the rules for now. Another really good soccer site is www.bigsoccer.com. It's an incredibly thorough site covering every single detail of the game. I am there all the time at the forums.

-another site is called www.rojadirecta.com. people post highlights of major soccer games happening all over the world. you can find all kinds of games there.

-and of course, theres YouTube. search for anything you like about soccer. My Tip: search for the top players, that way you see their highlight goals. My pick is Diego Maradona.

-as well, always check FIFA.com. FIFA is the governing body of soccer. Check their international game schedule, that way you can see when Italy plays. I believe the next round of World Cup Qualifying games are in October. You might even catch those on TV.

About international teams: My favourite team is Peru, since I was born there. I live and die with its national team, and I feel no bigger butterflies in my stomach than when Peru steps out on the field during an important game. I also like Mexico, because they play well; Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and Nigeria. These are the teams that really play the game nicely (they prefer to attack rather than defend, they show great teamwork, and every player has tons of skill on the ball). Great entertainment.
