Default Rugby (more specifically, college rugby)

Can someone explain the basics to me? Like how it's played, what happens, are there many similarities to US football? I never paid attention to sports, but I currently like a guy that plays for a certain high-ranked US college rugby team and I want to be able to understand it better....

I'd probably say read this first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_union_gameplay. If you have any questions after that,I(or someone else) could try and answer them.

I have followed it for countless years and I still don't fully understand it sometimes xD. Can be quite technical with the rules but it's a great game. You should also watch it on youtube to get an idea.

Loovee rugby favourite sport. Its not that hard to understand. you have 15 players on a team. There are 8 forwards and 7 backs. You can run with the ball in hand, can only pass backward or straight across never forward. However you can kick it forward. When a ball goes out over the sidelines a quick throw in can be taken or a lineout which involves the forwards and usually the forwards lift each other up to get possession. Then there is the scrum which has the forwards in it. Once a scrum is formed the scrum-half (guy who wears number 9 jersey) from the team awarded the feed throws the ball into the gap between the two front-rows. The two hookers (tight head and loose head number 3 and 1 on jerseys usually) then compete for possession by hooking the ball backwards with their feet, while each pack tries to push the opposing pack backwards to help gain possession. By touching down a try you get 5 points with another 2 to come if the kicker (number 10 jersey) hits the ball between the posts. If the kicker gets the ball between the 2 posts in a penalty it is 3 points. A drop goal is worth 3 points. A game is 80 minutes with no injury time. So 40 minutes for each half.
