Default Curt Schilling

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_le ... mlb,108796

The guy is such an arrogant prick. He never had a bad word to say about Manny Ramirez until Ramirez was in LA for a while. He kept his mouth shut when he was pitching, and Manny was driving in runs to get him wins. Now that he's out of the game and Manny is a Dodger, he opens his yap. Easy to shoot off your mouth now, Curt. Big man.

Manny was "being Manny" long before he ever left Cleveland. Boston knew what they were getting, and they continually turned their heads and ignored him until he forced their hand this year and made them trade him. Boston got two more World Series championships out of him than Cleveland did -- they should be grateful that he was on their team for as long as he was. He was more valuable for the Red Sox than Schilling ever was.

I say this not as a fan of Manny -- he was annoying when he was in Cleveland despite being a great hitter -- but as someone who has grown tired of Schilling shooting his mouth off constantly. I thought when he retired we'd have heard the last of him, but he has to keep spewing garbage even from the sidelines.

I think we all know that Schilling is right in principle, and I don't think being out of the game makes him not allowed to criticize the teamwork anybody ever, but it sounds like Schil belabored that point a little too much.

That's my point, he ALWAYS belabors the point a little much. Whenever I hear him talk, he comes across as VERY condescending. Which is why I'd just as soon never hear him speak again.

Schilling loves to hear from Schilling.

On a side note, Jason Bay is a pretty good player. Sort of a JD Drew with a pair.

Um, did people not realize he's a good player? Jason Bay has been around for awhile.

this isnt true or fair.

first off, he couldnt exactly go on the record and bash manny while manny was still here. he could, but it wouldnt have gone over well with management.

secondly, he got into a physical altercation with manny in the dugout once. so i dont think he was ever great friends with him..or intimidated by him.

third, im sure schilling leaked crap to the media about manny while he was here. im sure many players did, manny wasnt popular with the players, no matter what the red sox will have you believe.

there were two players that genuinely got along with ramirez,--julian tavarez and david ortiz. tavarez is now gone...and i hear even oritz had tired of manny's antics.

Tavarez and Manny were good friends back in Cleveland.

My point is that Schilling should have just kept his mouth shut, regardless of his feelings about Manny. Curt comes across as a pompous jerk when he talks. This is one of many examples of him shooting his mouth off.

I've been very vocal about my distaste for how Manny handles himself, as the "Manny being Manny" excuses started wearing thin during his days in Cleveland, but listening to Curt talk, I start taking Manny's side. That's how much I dislike listening to Curt and his "I know better than everybody" attitude. Screw Schilling. He's no better than Manny.

another thing about schilling, he is now more free to take shots at the red sox. if he does happen to play next year, it wont be with the sox, so he doesnt have to worry about offending management.

i like schilling. he will tell you what he thinks about any subject. i often disagree with his opinions, but i like opinionated people.

another thing i like about schilling is that he is a well rounded person. he can talk about a lot of different subjects.

There's a difference between being opinionated and being condescending. Too often he goes into the latter of the two.

I heard something during the coverage of the Indians/Red Sox games the other night. That was that even many of the Red Sox players and others in the organization thought Schilling was going too far and making too much of a distraction for the team, because Manny's leaving is old news at this point and bringing it up is simply creating a distraction and also because Schilling has been paid a lot of money to sit at home all year so he doesn't really know what's going on in the clubhouse. The Indians announcer who reported the story then took a shot at Schilling that was pretty good, pointing out how Schilling has to keep opening his trap because that's the only way he can get any attention these days.

The other thing they mentioned about Manny is about agent Scott Boras pulling the strings behind the scenes. Boras doesn't get paid until Manny gets a new contract, and he has a history of causing trouble. Manny is NOT a bright guy at all, so while he doesn't deserve to be let off the hook, I'm wondering why Schilling didn't have the balls to rip on Boras as well.

I must admit, as a baseball fan who cannot stand the Red Sox, I was impressed with the team for making it known that they don't necessarily agree with Curt the Loudmouth. Maybe they're worried that they'll have to face Manny in October, along with his .400+ average since switching to Dodger blue.

Ramirez is pond scum.A guy who makes TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR has to knock down old men, engage in temper tantrums that would embarrass a two year old, and deliberately tank his game, to ensure that he can make even MORE money for himself and his agent.A guy who never even bought baseball equipment for his high school like he promised to, and can't be bothered to visit wounded veterans and kids with cancer. He was such a cancer in the Boston clubhouse that the players voted 24-0 for him to be traded, with even his friend David Ortiz 'abstaining' from the vote.Ramirez takes 'unprofessional' and 'classless' to new levels.I can't wait until his playing days are finally over, he hopefully blows all of the money that he has 'earned', and people finally treat Ramirez like the clown, loser, and piece of sh*t that he truly is....

You didn't mind him that much when he was helping your team break the curse and win two World Series...

He wasn't deliberately tanking his game in order to force a trade back then....

I'll take the two World Series wins and a bickering player than no World Series wins and no bickering players any day of the week. You guys in Massachusetts have gotten spoiled.

Ramirez was part of two TEAMS that won the World Series.I don't consider refusing to sell my soul for a championship as being 'spoiled'. Ramirez is about as unprofessional and classless as a professional athlete can get.And his behavior during the past year (all designed by him and his new agent to force a trade) was WAY beyond 'Manny just being Manny.'I didn't realize that Ramirez was some deity who cannot be criticized....

Boston bent over backwards with the "Manny Being Manny" stuff right up until the end. I like the revisionist history now. (Not saying that you're engaging in this, but a lot of Boston fans are.)
