Default Parents

Is it possible to survive your child's adolescence? I'd really like to know if I'm going to come out of this alive! Also I think God has a strange sense of humour not only to put us through the midlife phase and top it off with a child going through a similar thing only younger! Those of you who have made it through

I often ask myself that same question

I have a 14 and 17 year old daughter. I have a 27 yr old son, but I was younger and stronger when he passed through this tumultuous stage, and I think I worry more about girls.

Wow! Three kids - you are indeed a brave man! I have one 14 year-old daughter - suddenly I'm not feeling so comfortable after your comment about girls

My "girl" comment is probably based on me being a male with social anxiety. I had some contact with adolescent boys as a kid, but almost none with girls. I realized the impact this might have about 5 years ago. It was quite a revelation.

One thing I hadn't been aware of is how intense the emotional lives of girls can be. I'm not sure that girls are more emotional, or just more comfortable expresing. My two certainly express away.

Having said all that, I'm actually enjoying watching my daughters grow up. Its just a little bittersweet at times.

Oh, okay. I've always wondered about the emotion thing. Sometimes I think girls and guys can be just as emotional as each other but many boys have been socialised not to express their emotions which is a shame.
