Hi Maddi
We used to have some forums broken up into age groups. The older group didn't have much posting for a while and someone posted a thread titled " Do you hear crickets?" the name stuck.

I though crickets had to do with aging bones making noises when we move around.

I like this explanation better!

And for the record.....we are only 29+

Jiminy Cricket was always a hero of mine.

I LOVE that explanation! Too funny! And 29 works for me! Its just nice to know people closer to your age are going thru the same thing. Not alot of people post their ages, and when they do they are usually teanagers. Not that there's anything wong with identifying with a teenager, but I'm past the dating and college thing. I'm married and have kids, a degree, a job, etc. And I feel like such a loser to still be dealing with this at my age. Although I wouldn't wish this on anyone, its reassuring that I'm not alone. Hope I didn't offend anyone...not trying to exclude the pre-crickets.

Talking

Hello there Maddi, welcome to the board. I've always wondered that too, always seemed like a silly name to me.

Not to take away from your post... but I'm wondering what happened to the rest of the posts on here? I swear there used to be a whole lot more threads started on here. Were they lost with the last move to the new forum? If so, any way to bring them back? This place needs more topics.

It only shows posts for a month back, if you change it below you can view older threads.

Welcome Maddi. I too just crossed the 4-0 border, about 11 1/2 years ago. So just barely.

I am 29+2. This year I will celebrate the third anniversary of my 29th birthday.

I'm glad that the poster who coined the name of the forum said "crickets" and not "tumbleweeds."

Have a nice day,
Kelly

I'm 45, and feel kind of old around here when I see the ages posted. I'm widowed and have three kids, 25, 9, and 4. I get the feeling I'm one of the oldest, though I don't feel very old, and I'm afraid probably don't act my age. I have had this since I was a kid, just didn't know what it was. I'd say it stunts your growth a bit, so technically I may be one of the youngest. Nice to meet you.

Eh, ditto on the big 33 here. Seems to be a popular number amongst us leaf munchers!

Thanks fellow crickets.

Somehow 'crickets' also makes me think of 'rickety'...as in old.

At some point, I'd love to hear how having SA has affected your lives as adults. I for one feel a bit of a sense of regret for not having taken advantage of certain opportunities over the years because of it
(ex: promotions/job offers where I would have to lead meetings, etc.) and just feel like I missed out on quite a bit of 'living'. I'm really happy for these kids who already have a grip on it. No one ever even discussed these things when I was a kid.

Overall, I'm extremely happy to finally have a sense of what the heck this 'shyness issue' has been about all these years. I find it pretty darn liberating.

Actually, I don't even consider myself shy...which is kind of strange. SA works in mysterious ways. Seems pretty individual as to how each person experiences it.

I agree. I had no idea that I had something that was actually diagnosable when I was in my 20's. I think it would have helped me to know. It helps me now to feel a bit better just knowing that I'm not the only one out there like this. I used to just feel like I didn't belong in the world. Even when I was a kid, I knew it was more than "shyness," I was scared out of my mind for goodness sake, not bashful. I think the young people on here are very fortunate to know already that they're not alone in this. I also think that people didn't use to talk about stuff like this as much back when. My older sister had an eating disorder when I was a kid and no one knew what was wrong with her. Now everybody knows about those types of disorders.
