Default Are you a pessimist or just a realist?

I tend to see myself as being very realistic about my life .- I don't want to fake myself out and wear blinders. I want the truth, good and bad. Other people say I'm very negative. I am aware a certain amount of bitterness has taken hold of me. Most of the time I do feel an edge of resentment/anger. I tend to feel in my case it's very natural though. Is it possible to deal with SA for most or all of your life-and really be a happy person???

I guess anything is possible, depending on the person and their outlook.

For myself, I'm a realist that tries to see the better side of things. While resentment and bitterness does have a tendency to sneak in when I'm not looking, I feel that 'happiness' depends more on being content in this moment, with what you have than being an over all state of being.

By 'content', I don't mean that this is where you want to be for the rest of your life... more like, 'yeah, this (whatever is going on at the time) is okay, I can deal with it but there's definitely room for improvement' kind of feeling.

An optimist sees the glass as half full. A pessimist sees the glass as half empty. A realist sees a glass of water and only considers whether he or she is thirsty.

I am a realist well and truly.
Most people see me as agressive as with my SA I tend to go into fight not flight so I am making a concentrated effort to come across "nicer".
I think realists have a better chance of dealing with SA. What do you reckon?

I really and truly see myself as a realist. For many years I tried the "magical thinking" thing until I finally realized that what I was believing just ain't so. From a personal point of view, I feel that I fare better when I harbor no illusions.

More times than I care to remember, I've been accused of being a pessimist, cynical, negative, spreading "doom and gloom", etc. etc.

I'm a realist. I don't try to hide from the negative or pretend I'm something I'm not. At the same time, I know I'm better off that a lot of people, i.e. homeless people, people born with serious diseases, etc.

I'm a realist, although most people would say I'm a pessimist. I see things for what they are, and in this day and age most of life is negative.

Once in a while I feel resentment about things I've missed out on, but feeling bad about the past makes the present bad. When I recognize that, I get out of the maladaptive mode of thinking and just accept it for what it is: the past. And I don't expect things to change very much in the future, so I guess I'm a realist.

I'm a pessimist but I'm trying to become more optimistic about things.
