Default My Economics class hates me

We had our first test of 40 multiple choice. The average score was 53%. People were reassured though because the teacher was going to grade on a scale with everyone being graded out of the top score. People were expecting the top score to be in the low 30's correct, I came out with a 38/40. This was announced and due to my score 13 people are now failing, I received glares. I can't say that I'm not satisfied though

I'll start studying 2 weeks in advance next time, for some reason I anticipate seeing the looks on their faces if I managed to pull off 40/40

This happened in one of my college classes. I was one of the many people that end up getting a flunking grade. We would of done better on the test if the instructor wouldn't of been making a bunch of noise while we were taking it. It was an open book test which most in the class weren't use to including myself. She kept yelling out how much we time we had left for each question. Also, she would walk between the aisles talking. She ended up grading it on a curve and the classmates that usually got A's flunked it. They ended up marching over to the Deans office to complain. The Dean gave her a talking to and she ended up letting us take the test over and she shut her mouth that time. Then everyone did well on it.

I wouldn't worry about it. It is those people problems if they didn't study.

I'm surprised the teacher mentioned that it was you that got the grade, usually the teacher will just announce the highest grade and leave it that.

I've had several teachers in college who would say who had the highest grade. One class, the teacher posted every paper and exam score with students names next to it... everything from the lowest failing grades to the highest.

I would agree. Even moreso, the grades could have been posted anonymously so that an ID number would be next to the grade.

Is ScanTron stuff still being used today, or am I dating myself?

Just be humble on the outside, and happy on the inside.

Don't feel bad about it. Grades are competitive. That's the magic of the curve, you have to step over others in order to do well. Be proud of your awesome mark and if people want to avoid failing, they'll study harder next time.

I think it's great that you got such a high mark
Don't worry about the others, they should have tried harder.

What an insane way to grade people! Mind you, in this country (Scotland) people witter on about the "bell-curve wars," insist that qualifications are criterion-referenced when in fact they are norm referenced... Why on earth norm referencing should ever be used is frankly beyond me. It just means that it's ok to be bad at your subject if those around you are worse. It's just crazy!

That's bull. You worked hard for your grade and people are blaming you for failing the test? That's their own fault. Shame on the teacher for calling you out. Jeez.
