Default Atheist friends.

An interesting trend I noticed is throughout my life the vast majority of my friends (esp close friends) have been atheists or agnostics. Superstitious people quickly fall out of my favor. I've been thinking why this is, but for another time.

Do you all, non-theists in general, notice this sort of trend for yourself?

My best friend is a Jesus freak. I love her anyway.

The rest of my friends always tend to be atheist/agnostic or non-religious.

Yes, I cant be close to someone who believes in imaginary father figures. I can be cordial and nice to them at work or something but i could never be close friends with a true believing theist.

I could and would however, be friends with a deist.

Likely in large part because you don't hang out at church to meet devout bible thumpers.

No, most people I've been friends with have been religious (at varying levels). I've never had a friend in real life who's an atheist.

I've got a couple of religious online friends who are pretty close, but mostly non-religious. It doesn't matter as long they're not preachy though.

Wellll kinda...my best friend is a Buddhist. She also believes in ghosts and things like that, which can get annoying sometimes, but I wouldn't trade her for anything.

No, actually for me it wasn't until I became an atheist did I realize a lot more people were non-religious. Most of the people I've known personally believed in God. If you live within the united states I have heard 80% are in some way religious, which is a very large percentage compared to a lot of countries like england which claims around 30% or 40% believers I think.

I never really discuss religion much outside of on line forums. I have lots of friends who are religious and I try to avoid ever offending them because they're religiousness doesn't seem to negatively affect them at all. We have so much in common that one aspect we differ on could never come in between us. I think we differ politically too but true friends and family wouldn't be stupid enough to let those things ruin relationships. And I consider my best friends as family members.

I am not accepting of religious belief. It's not ok to believe you are chosen or superior from other people and animals. I do not agree with morals taught by major religions, including Buddhism. I do not blame the person, I see their belief as resulting phenomena from out intricate psychology and intelligence. Religion is bad, ok?

Most of the people, I hung around with were theists of some sort simply because there weren't many agnostic/atheists in the area where I grew up. I had one friend who was an atheist, and then when we got older he became a Christian. I wouldn't say my friend's beliefs ever got in the way of anything, though we I did have a few debates with one of them.

The majority of my friends are either atheist, agnostic, or new age. I wouldn't make friends with Christians since I do joke around with organized religion and make a mockery of it every chance I get. Plus most of the Christians, I've come across are leaning on their God because they're not strong enough to be independent or using God as their crutch for all things wrong with them. Some of them are close-minded, below the intelligence quota, I wouldn't even want to associate with.

A lot of my best friends are Christian, but we mainly just don't talk about it. I know how they feel and they know how I feel. We connect in other ways. So most of my Christian friends are the open-minded, don't have to shove it down my throat type. Otherwise, most of my friends are generally atheist. I have a few friends of other religions, but I've noticed they're not even close to being the "shove it down your throat" type that Christians are.

I like to respect my friends, and I find it hard to respect monotheists. It's as simple as that, really.

Yes, most of all! Thats interesting, because I actually have a friend that is christian, but I socialize better with the other ones that are atheists/agnostics. And my only two friends virtually are atheists too.
