Default Registering a domain name

Does anyone know of a good (and cheap) company that will register a couple of domain names for me?

I looked into godaddy.com but they seemed kind of expensive. Is $9.99 per name the going rate? I thought you could do it for like $2.99 or something.

The last time I did this was several years ago and about the only company doing it at the time was Network Solutions. Don't even know if they're in business anymore.

$10/year is standard, GoDaddy is always recommended to clients. If you sign up for several years it might work out to a little less per year, I'm not sure. Sometimes if you sign up for hosting, they will throw one in for free for a year.

I'm not sure why you consider paying $10 once a year to be expensive. That's really the cheapest part of the whole 'get a site on the internet' process.

Over the years I've registered most of my domains at powerpipe.com, which used to be $8/yr, but is now $10/yr. The fees charged to registrars went up recently so domains are a little more expensive than before. I did one at godaddy a few years ago but they seemed to like spammy tactics and annoyed me in some other ways I can't recall so I left.

It varies by TLD though. A .com is more expensive than some of the others. There at least used to be a free one, though I think it only did forwarding.

Never, ever buy web hosting from a domain registrar. They're horrible at it and grossly overcharge their captive audience. I have enough customers using godaddy hosting to know how slow and pathetic they are.

I was looking for something cheap because I'll have no way of making any money from these sites. I'm not even going to put up any ads.

So, I wanted it to be as cheap as possible but I guess $9.99 per year isn't too bad since I'll have free hosting. Everything is expensive when you're unemployed, though.
