Default Printer not working

Hi all,
My printer is not working for some reason - I have uninstalled/installed it several times, done a virus/spyware scan, plugged and unplugged everything, checked my firewall etc but to no avail.
The printer is fairly new - I have no idea why it has suddenly stopped working.
When I have tried to print something, it says there is no communication with printer and I've done everything it has suggested.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I have recently started to get this message "interactive services dialog detection" everytime I turn on my computer - I cant get rid of it either - I have looked it up and it appears to be some kind of spyware but I've done a spyware scan and it was clean.

I may be wrong but I think I started to get all these problems when I installed Samsung New PC Studio for my phone.

Other problems have started occur as well after I installed it- I can't listen to this radio channel which uses Real PLayer to run.

I have noticed that my computer says my printer location is LPT1.

I'm kind of desperate - I have several assignments to print out by Monday so any help will be appreciated.

Some print screens:

[I can't seem to upload pictures on here either come to think of it].

I should add as well that I'm not really greatest techno-genius - I think system restore is when you restore your computer to a set point - however, I have no backup files (which I think you need) although I may be completely wrong.

As far as I remember, Windows is set to automatically create restore points by default. You can soon tell by running System Restore - it's in Programs > Accessories... select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and see if there are any restore points on the calendar.

It sounds like your computer is somehow trying to communicate with the printer through the wrong port. It should be using USB (usb virtual port, or whatever Microsoft uses), not LPT1.

Go to the control panel, then the printers/faxes area (Is it still called that in Vista? =/ ), and delete the printers you have in there that have lexmark in the name. Then re-attach the printer to the computer and with some luck it should just autodetect the printer if you've already installed the drivers before. If not, it will probably prompt for a CD or something for the drivers. It should've came with the printer though.

Thanks a tonne, huh! It seems only a simple solution was needed in this case and it worked a treat. The printer location is now USB001 .
