If you're not that experienced at shooting things close up, Instructables user Bloomautomatic's case for using the timer whenever possible might just be a revelation. There's ample evidence provided in the form of great macro shots, and a simple block of text you can feel free to forward to your friends needing help with their new cameras:



Set the focus to macro mode, turn off the flash, and set the timer.
Set up the camera on a tripod, or on a table so it won't move.
Place the object to be photographed in front of it.
Press the shutter button and take your hand off the camera.
